Mercury Outboard Power Trim Install – Inlines

Mercury Outboard Power Trim Install – Inlines

Instructional vid on installing trim rams, hoses, and the hydraulic motor for Mercury Outboards pre-integrated trim units (up to 1983). The vid leads off with some transom work and the actual 1982 90HP Blue Band install. Just make sure you get your measurements right so you only have to cut once. Not a drop of oil was spilled during this entire sequence (I should have spilled some just to make it look like a legit install….). Any questions please ask! Good Luck!

My cylinders are not filling up when Iuse this method. I have this same setup. Do I have air in my cylinders? Do I need to bleed them?

Lil Gator says:

Hey man do you have a Facebook page I need to see if you could help me on my mariner 115 and I’ll pay you

m4keyourself says:

Good stuff, man. Great work! Thanks for the video.

Dragon Suicida says:

I have one of this same motor/trim set up. I wanted to add a trim gauge to my pontoon to see when the motor is up or down. It has a switch next to the left cylinder, but not a variable resistor to send a signal to a gauge. Was this designed just to activate a switch, or can a regular sender be used to signal a gauge it's position. Thank you.

Todd Larson says:

Nice video, I have the lift calendars but am looking for a pump and wiring harness. I checked your ebay site and don't see a pump. Can you tell me what model to search for?

XXABERCYNONBOYXX says:

Does the vent screw have to be open? It says on my manual it has to be open but doesn't specify if it should be open at all times

Eric Lopez says:

Have a mercury thunderbolt 850 down and wanted to know how to raise it manually. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

An Unentitled Motivated Millennial says:

yijiang gu says:

great video. why did you get that drawing. I have the issue with wiring. pump is working. but no action.

Romeo M says:

Hello mate. Great video with alot of info. Thanks for taking the time to show people how its done. I'm doing exact same thing with my trim tilt on my older mercury thunderbolt 850. I would like to ask you 2 questions I hope you can make the time to answer them. Can you show me exact locations of the battery wiring and switch wiring? Mine are completely disconnected. I seen on the video some wiring but I was not able to see the top right side where the battery is because of the logo mercury outboard power trim install. Also how do i bleed the power trim tilt. To get all the air out?

Berserk Garage says:

Hey mate do you drop the engine with the release bolt in or out ? Engaged or in the release position?

Anthony Ciriaco says:

hey man thanks so much! just bought a nice boat with an 81' merc 90 hp, looks just like yours.trim motor cuts out after about a second when going up. going down fine. looks like a bad selenoid after watching. can i do the ole screw driver trick to see if it will go up?

thanks again, ill be checking your vids often!!

Quontez Jim says:

1 of my hoses just busted so I’m gunna replace them all, do you happen to have a part number or reference to where I can order or get the hose set?

Elijah G says:

Great video helped me alot

Ryan Trotter says:

@MerCSon could you point me in the direction of a wiring harness that would fit this type of power trim? I have one in my boat thats currently stuck in the up position and no matter what I do I cant seem to get it lowered. Ive released the vent screw and turned the control knob full right and its still not lowering. If there isnt a way to do this manually ill have to fix the power trim to lower the 1000ss back to parallel so I can then remove the powerhead (to further diagnose my issue with the tell-tale not functioning) Thanks! You"re videos are very helpful for a first time boat owner

PAuL BEARD says:

That motor and pump unit is what i need. Can you point me in the right direction. Or one that will work in its place.

JB Roof says:

I wish I had found your video sooner! So simple and concise. Thank you!!!

Rhys31 says:

What’s the part number for the pump/motor? I’ve only been able to find 2 port motor/pumps. Thanks

Loco Burro says:

Outstanding! You gave me all of the information I need to diagnose an issue pump. I just bought a 1965 650 and the up is having an issue. It is losing fluid somewhere but I had to clean it up before I can find the leak. Do you know if there are still rebuild kits available?

Jeff Lane says:

The wire goes from the switch to the solenoid and controls the pump. What wire was going into the engine cowling area?
I’m trying to rewire mine now

XXABERCYNONBOYXX says:

I have the same setup as this I added some oil to the reservoir and when I'm putting the motor up and down it stops and just clicks then after a few minutes it trims again what could this be? Also there are no leakes and the system has been reconditioned thanks

VT Drone Photography says:

is there any chance you could show me where to get this pump? and the lines?

True ChamP says:

Can you use automatic transmission fluid or it has to be the full synthetic motor oil 5w-30 that you used?

According to JayPaw says:

Do you by chance know where to get replacement hoses. Mine are pretty crunchy and need replacement. Great tutorial.
