I have oil coming out of a tiny hole on the side of the lower unit
starboard side on a 1978 55 hp johnson. is there a seal inside the housing
that needs replacing that prevent the oil from coming out? Please help!!!

Watched your video a few times. I’ve snapped my pinion gear and stripped my
shaft. I’ve purchased new pinion/forward gear and drive shaft. BUT when I
assemble the parts, it looks like the nut on the bottom of the shaft can
rub on the clutch (I think that’s what it’s called). It seems to have some
vertical play when it’s upright. Am I missing something? Any ideas? I can
post a pic or video if needed. Thanks!!

thanks for the great insight, obviously your abilities are so high this
video is below you… perhaps you should make your own videos and you could
be the next jesse james…

MegaGekkokamen says:

I have a 83 50 hp merc. thanks for the video!

Beau Boruff says:

hi, im sorry i would have to see the hole in the lower drive to be able to
tell. most lower units ive seen just have two screw holes one for filling
and one to drain.it could also be possible that the hole is actually a weep
hole to let you know the seals have failed and need replacing. try and take
a pic and maybe i can help.

deanmoncho says:

Thanks for vid Beau. Just bought a second hand lower unit and thanks to
your video realized I’m missing the impeller. You saved me blowing up

Taryn Molinski says:

good stuff man

Joe Hunter says:

Very interesting for the “how to”, but totally anoying as the camera is way
too close, moves all the time and moves too fast.

06bizzo says:

Hey mate was just wondering if you could post the website you ordered your
parts off

somir dasrim says:

love it love it how you work on it. that like me working on boat. every fkr
on here shows you million little measuring tools just to scare the shit out
of you and not even try fixing what ever is wrong. i have problem with my
reverse gear in lower unit and i am just reading about it. force 120 1996
do you know how hard would it be to replace reverse gear on this thing.
thanks YOU ROCK MAN.
