Mercury 4.5 hp Outboard Impeller replacement Water Pump Repair Horse Power How to replace Part 1

Here I show you how to take the lower unit off and access the impeller on this Mercury Outboard motor. I believe this is similar for the 4.5 5.5 6.5 7.5 8.5 9.5 Mercury. This is the old Merc45 Merc 45. Here is the first part of 2 parts where I go step by step to change the IMPELLER on the water pump. This will allow you to see how to change your impeller and save some money and time from waiting for the shop to get around to it.

I just realized I put the impeller in backwards. I must have flipped it while I was trying to put it on. It needs to spin clockwise. Lucky me back out there. mercury outboard water pump replacement

How to repair outboard with no water coming out the tell tale
Here I go step by step to go through the replacement of the water pump impeller. There may be some differences in the motor you are working on depending on the year but for the most part they are fairly similar.

I got this older Mercury 4.5 HP long shaft motor from a guy that hadn’t run this in years. It started up right away and idled to almost nothing. I noticed water was not running through the TELL TALE and I replaced / changed out of the impeller. This old two stroke motor worked great and the carburetor was still good. After switching up the impeller this worked like a champ and I took it on a 2 week vacation as a kicker and trolling motor.
Boat motor using as a kicker in my river boat, as this is the biggest motor I can get on without my steering bars hitting and not needing a kick plate to hold it up.

i have a 9.8 Nissan, how do you remove one of the two pins on the shifting rod, without potentially bending the rod, if you use a hammer to knock out one of the pins

Question? Does anyone know when you're testing in a can what are the rules about putting the outboard in gear when in the can????
I thought you weren't suppose to or not for very long, but have seen a bunch of people on youtube gunning the motor in the trash can????
