replacement of shift actuator on a mercury 300 seapro, remove lower unit the shift actuator is located right above the lower unit in the back, 4 bolts hold the actuator, and remove chaps and lower engine cowel on port side you will also need to remove the plastic shield between the the power trim unit and exsaust housing three 8mm bolts hold it on. remember to use blue loctite on the shift actuator bolts.

Removing these cowlings are a nightmare. any suggestions?
