See how to replace the water pump in a Mercury 40HP 4 stroke outboard in this video from Boats.net. The lower unit on our outboard has already been removed, so check below for a video that will show you exactly how to handle that part of the job.

We’ll begin by removing the old water pump. Along the way we noticed that the shift shaft boot was damaged, so we made a quick replacement. If you notice yours is damaged, check the link at the top of this description to get one.

With the boot replaced, we’ll work on replacing the impeller along with the rest of the water pump on our Mercury 40. The entire water pump comes as a kit, and you can find it along with all of the parts, tools and supplies we used at the link at the top of the description. You can also find the Mercury 40 water pump kit by itself here: https://www.boats.net/product/mercury/821354A04?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf_BDN

I would like to learn how to replace a Fuel Pump in a 2006 25/30 HP EFI 4 Stroke Outboard motor. Motor starts and then stops. Never keep running for more than couple seconds. Don't know what exactly the issue is.

I have a 2 year old 40 that sand had clogged the thermostat. Do you think I need to go ahead and maintenance the pump after sand? It's still peeing like a horse but took it back out yesterday run fine for a moment them the beeps hit again. So either I missed some sand or something else is wrong. Checking the thermostat again today but the first time got like a 1/2 cup sand out.
