Is the procedure the same on an 1999 Mustang 3.8L?

1A Auto Parts says:

@dc007fan HI…well I have a 92 LX with the same issue. It’s usually one of
two things, it could be the sending unit, or there’s a module behind the
gas gauge in the cluster that tends to go bad. If the sending unit doesn’t
resolve the issue, more than likely its the module on the backside of the
cluster. Hope this helps you out.

23bosskid says:

When replacing the fuel pump is it necessary to replace the sending unit

oli8181 says:

great video!!!!

youngvic812 says:

thanks Kevin Bacon

1A Auto Parts says:

@Actueel68 The procedure would be different on the 99 Mustang, because it’s
a different platform.

kassop says:

@1aauto Ok thanks for the tip, going start working on it.

1A Auto Parts says:

@20002241 If there’s some type of a nut or flange holding them on you could
try to free them up with some penetrating oil.

Kevin Grim says:

i have a 1981 mustang coupe, same thing or not?

Kevin Grim says:

okay so the tank i have on my 81 is from a 94, the sending unit have the
hoses hooked up to them but they are steel braided and impossible to get
off. help?

1A Auto Parts says:

@20002241 The tank in your 81 Mustang should be pretty close to the one
shown in the video. You may have a couple of lines that are different,
because your car was not fuel injected.

dc007fan says:

@1aauto I hope it works out for you! It seems like these mustangs are
famous for this issue. I did read about the “Anti-Slosh Module” and its
purpose is supposed to not make your fuel gauge bouncy upon turns, braking,
and going up/down on hills. According to what I’ve read, the anti-slosh
module was discontinued for vehicles from 87-89. Unless you can get it from
a ford dealership which is better than not finding any.

atxcadillacking says:

@1aauto i have a leak where the filler tube connects to the tank can u
describe in detail how its attached and where can i find the ruber piece

ModVillain says:

is the fuel pump in the gastank on this mustang>?

1A Auto Parts says:

I’m not sure what year the Cutlass is, but if the tank has a welded fuel
filler on it, It’s usually more cost effective and less hassle to just buy
the tank with it already atached. We sell gas tanks and sending units for
many kinds of vehicles on our website 1aauto.com or you can call Tony @
866-403-3393 Hope this helps you out.

1A Auto Parts says:

@kassop There more than likely would be quite a bit of fabrication to be
done.

keithwiggi says:

Thank-you, you may be right. The leak was worse when the tank was full
rather than almost empty so it may be the filler neck seal.

1A Auto Parts says:

@cz619 The process should be the same.

kassop says:

@1aauto Its on a toyota mr2, i want to relocate the fuel cap above the
original position on the quarter glass section. do you think it will be a
big job?

1A Auto Parts says:

@heavy71chevy No problem, it is what it is!

snodz86 says:

i got it! it had some double sided tape above the tank! your video was
awesome! very very very helpful!

1A Auto Parts says:

@youngvic812 I’ll take that as a compliment

1A Auto Parts says:

@kassop It would probably take quite a bit of fabrication, to relocate it
on the vehicle.

1A Auto Parts says:

If the tank is rusty while you have it out it might not hurt to replace it.
There’s a rubber gasket that seals the fuel filler neck to the gas tank, it
may be leaking from there. We carry new gaskets and gas tanks for your Ford
Mustang on oue website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1A Auto Parts says:

@atxcadillacking We carry those gaskets on our website. Here’s a link to
them. They have a grove that helps to hold the gasket in place on the gas
tank. Hope this helps you out.

1A Auto Parts says:

This video is representative of most fuel tank replacements. The general
procedure is the same. Ideally you want as little gas left in the tank as
possible. Disconnect electrical and fuel line connections. Support the
tank. Straps usually unbolt at one end. Lower tank slowly. Transfer parts
to new tank and reinstall with new straps. Obviously connections and bolt
sizes etc will differ from car to car.

1A Auto Parts says:

@snodz86 If you loosened everything that we show in the video(s) it should
come right down for you.

dc007fan says:

Hi 1AAuto! The gas gauge recently on my 1988 ford mustang lx 5.0 goes past
full when the car is on everytime. I only have about a quarter tank left in
it but it goes past full. Is it most likely the fuel sending unit? The car
starts right up perfectly fine. When I turn it off, the gauge goes down a
little bit. I’ve been doing research about this issue and saw on some
forums that its possible it can be the “Anti-Slosh Module” which is located
behind the cluster.

1A Auto Parts says:

@snodz86 That’s weird. Glad you got it out and that we could help out. Have
a great day.

1A Auto Parts says:

Yes it is.

1A Auto Parts says:

@snodz86 You may want to check the wiring to see if the pump has power
going to it.
