eric stack says:

ok, update**IMPORTANT READ BEFORE REPAIR** so, like I said I am disabled.i
didn’t really get an answer to my question of whether all of the steps were
necessary from 1AAuto. that said, my 13 year old daughter did the repair.
you do not have to take out the quarter glass, or any of the window trim.
also, if you aren’t replacing the motor you do not have to drill out the
motor bracket rivets. use 1/4 20 x 1″ bolts.my thanks to artpatronforever
for the heads up on not over drilling.

1A Auto Parts says:

If the cable is stretched, you will have to replace the whole regulator
since there is no way to just replace the cable.

1A Auto Parts says:

Yes this video will show you how to replace the window regulator on your 97
Mercury Grand Marquis. You may want to take the door panel off to see if
the window regulator has broke. If you need a new one, we carry them on our

Awesome. I hope you win the noble peace prize for you contribution. Thumbs
up!

1A Auto Parts says:

If it’s on the outside of the car, it should be the same process as shown
in this video.

laytoncy says:

Thanks! I’m going to order the part but in the meantime my window will
slide down a bit while driving. I’d like to put the door back together
until I have the time for this repair. Is there a good way to prop/hold the
window in place until I can make the repair?

baldtwit says:

nice video! I replaced right rear on a 1997 grand marquis. It wasn’t
necessary to move the stationary window or the upper part of the window
guide rails. Removing the two lower 11mm bolts for the window guide rails,
lowering the window to get it inboard of the guide rails, and removing the
top rubber seal forward of the stationary window was enough to allow
removing the glass.

Farmersmalls says:

Thank you so much! Really helped make the install a lot easier!

IntelDrone says:

I dont know if my power regulator is broke, but for my 2006 crown vic, I
press the button and no sounds, no movement. driver button click and still
no movement. I’ve checked the switch with a known working one and same
thing. What do you think is the problem?

OldsVistaCruiser says:

Very good video. Thanks! However, I just picked up a ’93 Grand Marquis LS.
It has an E&G Classics “Montigua” half-padded vinyl roof on it, and it has
trim around the rear door frames, including over the separator/window track
between the quarter window and the rear window. I was wondering what else
is involved with that trim? This car needs both rear regulators.

1A Auto Parts says:

You will have to most likely go to your local hardware store and try and
get something that will work for you. You could also try contacting your
local dealer and they could assist you.

1A Auto Parts says:

If the motor has gone bad but the regulator is fine, on this vehicle you
should be able to just replace the power window motor. We carry them on our
website. 1aauto.com or you can call Tony @ 866-403-3393 for help.

artpatronforever says:

The motor was fine and was reused on the 95 Marquis, so the 3 riveted plate
was left intact and removal and replacement was by the 3 torx screws. That
left only the two lower rivets on the regulator plus the 2 rivets in the
glass requiring drilling. The failure of the old regulator showed the glass
had stuck due to infrequent operation and the cable anchorages were broken
trying to move the stuck glass. Some sort of lubricant of the tracks should
prevent such failures. What lubricant is good ??

992dr says:

Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it. I also appreciate you guys making
this video. It was very helpful. I think I was one of those rare occassions
though. My regulator was in working order. The culprit was my window
itself. Somehow, the front molding got caught or pushed behind the window
causing it to jam. Making it impossible to roll the window all the way up,
it would go down but not up. I took the window out and straightened out
that peice of molding and it works fine now. Thanks again

IntelDrone says:

I took my pannel off today and the window doesnt move up or down at all.
The motor is hot after several tries so i’m wondering if i need the whole
regulator or just a new motor. Thanks

Marla Byerly says:

This process worked great for our 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis. We used 1/4 x
20 machine screws with the lock washers at the lengths prescribed in the
video. Additionally, we had to loosen the nuts on the bolts through the
windows and run the regulator up and down a few times to ensure the window
moved smoothly before tightening the nuts again.

eric stack says:

ok, this is awesome and i’m going to order my regulator because of your
help. a couple of questions. first will you specify what hardware is needed
like 1/4 20 x 1/2″ bolts or whatever? also in the comments it says that
removing the quarter glass is not necessary…is that true (98 grand m)? I
am disabled and any unnecessary work avoided will help. thanks

lostpuppydog says:

I ordered the window regulator for my 97 grand marquis from 1A. I was able
to uninstall the old and install the new with no problems thanks to this
video! If I hadn’t found this video I woulda given up or broke something.
Not to mention, 1A had the best price for the unit on Ebay. Thanks!

widgester says:

It looks like the door panel has been opened before in my car, because the
bolt/washer for the front channel is missing along with that vapor barrier
plastic. Do you sell that bolt or can you tell me what kind of bolt I need
to attach that front window channel? Thanks.

MoonajuanaHarvest says:

thank u this vid took alot of fear out of a do it yourself project

Brad Salzwedel says:

Is this the same way to fix a 1997 grand marquis? The motor makes a sound
but no movement in the window. I can pull the widow up by hand. What should
I do? Thankyou so much for your help and this video.

Steve Pickering says:

Mike, thanks very much for this video. Without it, I never would have
attempted this procedure on my own with my 2004 Crown Victoria. I ordered
the part from 1A Auto, and it arrived in a few days. Then I just followed
your instructions on the video. The most difficult part was removing the
rivets, since only one of the center pins punched out properly, but I was
eventually able to drill out the rivet and the pin together. These videos
are a great service!

laytoncy says:

The driver side rear window on my 1998 Grand Marquis will go down but not
go back up. I took off the panel to get a look inside and there is a cable
there that is hanging looser than it probably should be. It sounds like I
need to replace the regulator only and not the motor. What changes in this
type of installation? This is a great video but it still leaves me feeling
a little sketchy in my ability to get it all back together right.

1A Auto Parts says:

You could spray a little bit of white lithium grease in there. You can buy
it at your local auto parts store.

1A Auto Parts says:

If you follow the steps that need to be taken in the video you should be
fine with making the repair. There’s not really any specific size bolt to
use. Just a nut and bolt long enough to attach the regulator should do the
trick. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

artpatronforever says:

The driver side rear window on a 95 Marquis does not have to be removed
from the door to replace the regulator. After tapping out the pins and
drilling the rivets which hold the glass, and loosening the tracks, the
glass can be slipped out of the tracks and lowered until the bottom of the
glass rests inboard and the top is tilted outboard providing enough
clearance to slip the threaded studs at the top of the regulator out of
their mounting holes. The motor regulator was held by 3 torx screws.

I'ma wiseaker says:

Seeing that this was a rear window on a 1994 Grand Marquis I sure wasn’t
going to pay someone to fix this regulator. Either I was going to do it
myself or I just wasn’t going to use the window. I am relatively handy but
wasn’t sure if I was capable of replacing the regulator since I had no
prior knowledge of how to do it. This video made it easy and actually fun.
The part I ordered from 1A Auto fit perfectly and the money I saved along
with a now functioning window made me very happy.

1A Auto Parts says:
