Also check the inertia switch.
I’m replacing the grommet in my 2001 mustang fuel tank (the current one is leaking from my observation). This component just pops in and out correct?
You may want to check the fuses, there may also be a inertia switch somewhere that may need to be reset. You may also want to check the relays going to the fuel pump.
I just replaced my fuel pump with a brand new one but it doesn’t get any power have any ideas?
While you’re at it also install a new filler neck gasket (the one on the tank). They tend to leak and dry out with age. Just an added tip while you already have it out of the car. We carry them on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393.
Thanks for posting this. This is very helpful. I just bought a new tank for my Mustang and this will help! God bless
No, but you should replace the sock filter on the bottom of the sending unit!
Not to my knowledge. You may want to take another look at the lines to see if they are connected the right way, or possibly replace the fuel filter to see if it helps at all.
do you need any special tools to connect the fuel lines? I put a front tank on my 93 F-150 and it dont seem like the lines are hooked up right the truck runs off the tank but I go through hell to start it usually I have to start it with the rear which starts the truck without a problem and then switch to the front and it runs fine…..any ideas?
Thanks for checking us out. One of our employees owns this Mustang. It has over 330,000 miles on the original 4 cyl! and she’s still going strong.
Nice video. Covers the procedure pretty well. I’m a bit more meticulous. I clean all tank parts before swapping them to another tank. Was the new tank at least wiped down on the exterior with lubricant or something? The rust from the underside of the car will just spread to that tank, too. Would’ve been nice to take a grinder/sander to that underside of the Mustang. sad to see a nice LX coupe body rotting like that.
If you check out the Part 1 video it will show you where they connect to. Hope this helps yah out. Here’s a link to part 1 youtube.com/user/1aauto?feature=mhee#p/search/1/yEOv7S7dS6c
I acidentaly disconected both fuel lines from the pump and now i dont know witch one goes where, how do i figure witch one goes where?
@1aauto when replacing a fuel pump do u have to replace the sending unit aswell or ???
It might take you about 3-4 hours.
How long would this take. One day ?
Check out our website 1aauto.com we carry sending units for Mustangs, and all kinds of other applications.
You could do dynamat. Using 2 layers of roofing felt with a thin layer of roof tar between is a budget way to go that does the job as well.
but can you buy those sound deadeners from a store ready to go or do you need to buy like DynaMat and custom cut it?
I’d call them sound deadener or an insulator.
what is the name of the rubber sheets that go on the top of the tank? i know they prevent vibration against the body. i cannot find them anywhere new. thanks
Dude I’m glad that you placed these out there I’m about to restore my 1986 Capri sole owner bought it with 33 miles on it. Been sitting for 7 years so going to be doing a lot of things first one is want to make sure the motor still runs good but my fuel tank has rusted so I’m replacing that and the sending unit. then hitting the engine. It does run when fuel applied directly.
Anyway thank you again.
The rubber gasket around the fuel tank filler neck is usually called a grommet. The rubber gaskets fro the sending units are called O-Rings.
can you tell me what is the name of the rubber part that goes inside the gas tank i think its a lomit but im not sure thanks
