Thank you so much for posting this video. My cable just snap yesterday. I
had no ideal on how to replace it. Now I think I can tackle it myself.
Thank again.

rampage3510 says:

For those who havent done this, route the cable through the steering tube
before you mount the rack to the steering wheel worm gear. This will
eliminate the need to remove the Outboard Motor!!!

Great video. I’m having trouble with steering being super-stiff on my boat

Very nice video sir! I think I have to replace my steering cable
unfortunately, it’s locked up real bad and won’t budge.

maximpulse says:

Thanks for showing all the steps to changing the steering cable. We just
bought a used Merc 1000, launched it and then noticed the steering is
frozen, so we’re doomed to follow in your footsteps. Showing us what you
did has eased our fears considerably! And all the details are appreciated,
too. Never under-estimate our ignorance and you won’t be disappointed! A
big thank you!!!!

I have a question. Does the steering wheel / motor need to be in the
“straight” position? Thanks in advance. Great video BTW. Will save me
hundreds.
