Paul Ralhan says:

20+ years of fitting windscreens and no “sucker” failure. Ever.

Continued …. Especially bonding the glass. Must take a lot of accuracy. Do you ever worry about your back in later life ? As for the road-cone/bonnet stay I to improvise to get better clearance in fact I’ve got a perfectly sized pry bar for 5439s ( don’t lift them by myself not as big as you lol) all the best demilose

Hi paul great vids good to see someone who is serious and dedicated to there work. Would the tape in question be marcy adhesives low tack the one that’s not supposed to affect paint work ? I ask because I use the same tape myself and have never had an issue with lacquer being pulled. Having said that I always remove the tape before leaving the job as the bonding has usually got enough green strength by the time I’ve built it back up etc. Was impressed to see you lift a 6542 by yourself especial

Paul Ralhan says:

I wanted to shoot some footage, but it was a windy day hence the sheets were taken off. You appear to have the whole AW bag of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ ingrained in your head; perhaps you should have taken some video footage of your own while you were at Meadowbank.

Re: the tape – it is not parcel tape and for the record, you may see it as boasting, others will see it as a promotional video for services offered.

bluestu1969 says:

next, what do you mean next? why remove the sheets? it looks unprofessional. one of the main reasons for sheeting up is to protect it, if for example a sucker failed! if you say its not hi tack i’ll take your word for it but low tack tape is usually masking tape to whatever kind that is. it looks like parcel tape.don’t be so aggresive, i just thought you boasting about prefection was a little misplaced.

Paul Ralhan says:

1. Protective sheets – were removed before this video (which focuses on the bonding stage). The seat and foot-well covers are still in place.

2. It’s not “hi tack tape”.

3. The traffic cone is an improvisation to give clearance from the bonnet – look again, the scuttle panel is OFF.

NEXT!

bluestu1969 says:

perfection? no protective sheets on the car, using what looks like hi tack tape on the bodywork that could peel lacquer, using a traffic cone to hold the bonnet open at a height so you don’t have to “correctly” remove the scuttle panel. cutting corners doesn’t make perfection. your bead was ok tho hope you correctly cleaned and prepped the apperture….

Paul Ralhan says:

I know what you mean, but I think that’s down to the rivets used at source. The play isn’t the problem though, it’s the trim (which can show distortion if not removed with proper care).

MrGlassFitter says:

Do you replace the clip rivets when you remove the top trim ? I tend to find they have a little play in them when the top trip gets removed.
