There is no repair done on the rust.
I had to sell my lovely 13yo 2000 E320CDI estate, I was second owner 154K
miles. There was not single steel body panel without bubbles or spyder
netting under paintwork, even roof started up. Holes were on drivers door,
under rear bumper, in front subframe. Now I drive 17yo volvo v70R (9
keepers 210K miles) – subframe like new, some starting rust, body was
galvanises unlike MB.

Rust is the real shame about these cars. Theyr’e great to drive, lovely
soft ride on the elegance model . I’ve owned 3 w210’s – 2 elegance and 1
avantgarde. Great engines, the early diesel engines, I’ve had a 250diesel
and a 300 diesel, will go forever with very little maintenance. Currently
own a 2000 w210 E220cdi which is excellent on fuel , it has some rust on
the wheel arches, undersides of the front doors and also signs of filoform
rust coming through, though it looks good at the moment

Dan57440 says:

Where do you live for it to get that bad? The 96 300diesel I had before the
220cdi I have now, I bought from a farmer in South Wales, the drivers side
front wing was rotten – I had this replaced with a pattern part. It had a
couple of nasty bits of rust as well, which in the frosty Welsh winter
seemed to get worse every time I looked at them. I got rid of the 300
diesel becasuse I got fed up of touching up the paint. I think it had been
neglected by the previous owner, it was off road in a barn.
