Fantastic DIY video MrScott! I have a 2008 C300 here in Texas. My command
wheel stopped working about 6 months ago (about 5 years after purchase). I
was putting off calling the Mercedes dealership because I knew if was going
to be ridiculously expensive to repair. With your help, it cost me some
epoxy glue and a $25 soldering gun. I did run in to one issue. The
command control unit would not lift right out after I removed the screws.
I pulled on it, and when it finally gave way, I realized I had ripped the
cable in half. The cable was routed under the floor of the center console,
under the command unit, and not thru the hole in the front of the command
unit like you showed in your video. It had absolutely no slack. After
some soldering, I made sure it went back in like you showed it. (next time
I have to work on it, it will be much easier to remove!) Thanks again. I
am now back to a fully functional command knob! BTW, next project is
installing a rear camera.

Happy New Year!! – Mr.Scott52. I’ve tackle this over the Christmas
Break. It was very easy, took me overall 2 hours, not waiting for the glue
to dry overnight. I didn’t cut the wire, but it was tough to remove the
wire without cutting it. I was able to manage to remove the clip and then
carefully slip the whole wire out. I overkilled with reinforcement with
paperclips and toothpick sticks and epoxy glue :-)

Thanks for the quick reply. I decided to just go ahead and dissamble my
knob and try to repair it myself and it worked just fine. Was not a problem
at all with this great tutorial!

The only mistake I can see in your video is you put the steering wheel back
on the wrong side of the car :)

Mine is 2008. Come to think about it, I think I Know Why it Broke. If you
PUSHES; NOT Turnning the knob; pass it “Breaking point” then it will break
the rod. I found out the hard way from my 1 year old baby when she tried
to get over to the passenger side; she wedged (aka kicked) her foot at the
clicking wheel, that what cause it to malfunction. Thanks for the video.

Michael Hierholzer says:

Can you or anyone tell me if the knob once replaced will work immediately
or does it first need to be flashed programmed? I just installed a new knob
and it all the push functions work but I get still no response from
turning. Now I’m worried the new button I got of off ebay is broken too.

OMG – Thank you so much for your DIY video. I was able to have the
rear-view camera after years of waiting. and Now the Scroll wheel just
broke 3 days ago. I’m very glad for your video. I’ll tackle this after
get my camera straighten out. Thanks again and have a Great Holiday !!

Thanks for the compliment. I do appreciate it.

MrScott52 says:

Thanks for the compliment. I hope it solves your problem. There’s another
video of how to repair the scrolling wheel if yours has broken.

Dean Fairbourn says:

Many thanks for that.
