Brad Fuzztone says:

Just scored an S202 from 97 and it is great to find these videos. Keep up
the good work. I owe you a beer for sure.

billy knell says:

yes tried that, the tuning guy came out, popped his connector onto the socket
under the bonnet, could not get any response from the car, : >(… charged
me £25 and off he went, so next thing is to change key switch steering lock
switch and the key ecu, will cost around £160 second hand, will defo do the
video on this change over.may take a week,to get the right parts as the
numbers have too match,c220 cdi …the heartache continues ;>(.

billy knell says:

Hi i have only just ,got your reply, which i thankyou for,but i had
already, took out the responder that the key go,s into, there is only 1 part
inside there that can come out,it,s about 2mmx5mm and as thick as a hair,
and without doing damage, near impossible to get back in,you cannot get at
it and see it at the same time,so i have bought a second hand 1 and im
waiting on it arriving,no car for over a week, nightmare, thanks for the help
man.

fupabox says:

Nope.. as long as you are careful pushing the piston back in ..BAS/ESP
works along with ABS and retracting the pistons for brake replacement is
routine

Bostonclassics1 says:

Excellent. As well, keep up the W210 E300 Turbo Diesel videos.

fupabox says:

check all the fuses first..don’t forget the ones in the battery under the
trunk mat..the lock and unlock the doors manually with the key..then point
the key at the rear view mirror and push the unlock button, they try to
start with 5 seconds..it is possible the key has decided it doesn’t belong
to your car and needs to be re set, which the above procedure should do.

fupabox says:

Will it start in nuetral ?

ced4dg says:

My c230 makes a cliking sound on the front when i turn sharp when parking.
Could this be the upper balljoint? Cosmetically it looks ok. Btw thanks for
the vieos!

Siu Henry says:

Oh, i missed to mentioned i also replaced the 4 brushings for the front
lower control arms. After replacement, straight line running and precise
steering over corners. Thx for your video for upper A arm, i will get mine
replaced soon.

fupabox says:

@NimaSomeh you’re very welcome….I should have a few more in the next few
days

fupabox says:

glad to help 🙂

Mario Slipac says:

Is wheel alignment necessary after this repair? I have a 99 C230 W202

fupabox says:

The Florida heat is much worse on the plastics than Canadian weather…even
the cars I find in the wrecking yards have generally perfect interiors
other than maybe a split seam on the drivers seat

ced4dg says:

@fupabox you are exactly right. It was the lower rear control arm bushings!
The sway bar bushings are still good. Thanks!

billy knell says:

hi mate, was wondering if you could help me out,i have a c220 cdi w202 1999
merc, went out to the car yesterday put the key in and it wouldn’t even
turn, checked the battery and give it a charge, still nothing,is there any
relays or hidden fuses i can check before, i start the spending spree, i
would appreciate it…..i gotta say im sad on this……

billy knell says:

hi mate, turned out someone had put oil in the ecu,so long and short,i
bought another c220 cdi changed all the parts and it worked,if it ever
happens, you need to change 1 ecu 2 key 3 responder that key go,s into and 4
steering lock, all part numbers must match,so im breaking the original c220
cdi and keeping the new 1 with the 1 year m,o,t,i bought thankyou for your
help…

fupabox says:

glad you got that all figured out

jorgemarr says:

I also purchased my sons 1997 c280 at a very cheap price, we love the car
but needed a lot of things to be replaced. Thank God im pretty handy and
that ive found your posts. Have you had any problems with the plastic
cracking easily? I live in Florida and i guess the heat has made the air
vents, moldings, etc. very brittle. Wish i could find new replacements.

fupabox says:

thank you very much..I appreciate the feedback 🙂

fupabox says:

please do post the vid… interested to know what the problem is.. could be
an ignition issue as well.. did you try turning the steering wheel slightly
side to side as you turn the key ? wheel lock on the ignition can wear a
bit and get sticky

fupabox says:

no alignment necessary {usually) ..there are no adjustments that can be
made to the upper and lower ball joints. Only when replacing the lower
control arm bushings or steering centre link/tie rods should you need an
alignment…if an alignment was done with bad ball joints (most shops won’t
do an alignment with bad components) then the alignment MAY be out after
ball joints are replaced….very very unlikely though

billy knell says:

It,s in park,i moved it a few night ago, went to bed,got into next day
nothing, key wont even turn in ignition,is there a way to move it out off
park and into neutral without the key,the remote is fine, opens doors locks
the car,put it in ignition zero,not a chirp,so i bought a new responder
with 2 keys, put it in pressed both buttons on the remote for 10
secs, pressed the lock button it locked the car pressed open it opened the
car put it in the ignition, guess what!! nothing, mobile turner tomorrow.

tastyroor says:

Just wanted to say I think your videos are awesome! Driving a 99 c230 komp
with about 92k on the odometer. I am going to change the brakes next week.
Is it possible to cause damage to the BAS/ESP system when pushing in the
piston? I am not sure the differences (if any) from the car you showed
changing the brakes and a 99 C230k Sport ESP. I just dont want to see that
light come on if i can help it! 🙂 Anyway thanks for the tutorials!

David Brandy says:

Excellent tech video! I’m impressed at you attention to detail and adhering
to proper rules for suspension repair. I was very happy to see your
tightening of the bolts at ride height, that is often neglected in other
videos. Keep up the good work!

fupabox says:

@ced4dg could be..but seems more likely to be the lower rear control arm
bushing (if you get a clunk when reversing and hitting the brakes quickly
then the lower rear bushing is going bad..nasty job to replace..mine are a
little tired and I will be doing them soon as well) could also be the sway
bar bushings..try to pry on them gently and see if they are moving around
inside the mounts (1 end mount on each lower control arm and 2 on the
frame)..they are cheap and easy to replace

billy knell says:

mobile tuner tomorrow, i will keep you posted,i might see if i can set a
video up and post it on here,…
