Doubt it since he is still using the OEM filter if anything he may have lost some HP by adding the second filter and disconnecting of the ram air intake at the front

Joycy Cruz says:

the hose that I bought came with connectors.. does the connector on the side that you did not show come off also or do i need to rip off the hose from the new connector and connect it wit the old ones?

Joycy Cruz says:

Hi, on the other side of the connector, the one that you did not show, does the connector come off or do I have to rip off the hose from the new one that i bought and then stick it to the old connector with an adhesive?

olivierpuyraud says:

Possibly but I wouldn’t count on more than +2HP

olivierpuyraud says:

The hose is glued at both ends. Rip it out, apply epoxy, reconnect the hose at both ends and let dry for 24 hours.

Gained any HP ??

VOTE4BENZ says:

dude you didnt show how you take both of the connectors off for the hose i just ordered the same part brand new for my kompressor and i want to replace the whole whose myself how do you get the connectors off?

olivierpuyraud says:

If you own this car, It’s probably out of warranty by now.
You would want to check in the Limited Warranty pamphlet in the User’s Manual.

I’m taking a wild guess that replacing that plastic hose was probably no more than the extra filter. However the video and change is very pro . Thanks for sharing!

So is this a safe setup and would this setup void warrenty?

one more question. Are air enters easily into the engine, as was the case before putting sports Air filter? especially as we are here in the summer temperatures may reach 40’c

olivierpuyraud says:

I don’t think it matters. I would consider the overall cost of going to the “single ‘sport’ filter” versus what you gain from it. In other words, if the ‘sport’ filter is reasonably priced in relation to what you can afford, do it. I like this (my) setup. It fills up the space under the hood and has a high aesthetic appeal. Furthermore the Cone FIlter I have on acts as a leaf/debris filter and yet allows a-LOT of air to pass. I see it as a better option than the standard hose-to-filter setup.

EDY Nehme says:

I have the same car. and i made the same air filter and intake that you did.. but the mecanicien told me that i should put the sport air filter and remove the original one ! so the car has 1 air filter. is that what i should do ? (btw sry for my english :s ) . nice video

Right yes, I am very familiar with the W203 chassis in all forms. My problem with opening up the passenger side is that it is a new path for water to enter the engine bay (a big no-no in these cars). It’s an interesting mod you made – I think I’ll just replace my crummy intake hose and call it a day.

olivierpuyraud says:

What I did was open the driver side one too, to double the amount of fresh air coming into the engine bay through the grill. It will pull in some of the heat from the engine bay but a lot less than what you might imagine. I wouldn’t have done this if I lived in Manhattan or if I had a lot of standstill traffic in my area. As far as performance I don’t see any difference. It looks better, sounds better, and the K&N filter has practically no restriction. Thanks for the comment.

olivierpuyraud says:

She’s a bit more throaty for starters. There’s a bit more growl when I’m picking up speed. To combat the hot air recycling I’ve popped open the second air grill. It’s too bad I can’t post an illustration but the body style was made to accommodate a larger engine with 2 intake hoses (one on the driver and one on the passenger side). In the normal configuration (w/ the hose) only the passenger side inlet was opened.

Mlowery85 says:

I have the same problem with my intake tube on my 05. Happens to all of them. The thing is, what you’ve done is likely not the best option. Now it has double filters (extra restriction) and even though the K&N is near the original grille-mounted intake, it is still going to pull the air directly from the hot engine bay. This does make a difference in my car performance wise. Do you notice anything? BTW – love Mars Red and she looks great.
