Awesome video! Finished it thanks to your video! However, I still get the same CEL code. I topped off the coolant, the hose to the thermostat is hot (indicating the thermostat turns on), the inside temp gauge does not indicate it’s over heating. I let it sit for about an hour, normal temp and no smoke. It started to smoke after I revved it a few times, but the engine temp is still normal!

Suggestions? Solutions?

Lynette Stewart says:

How do I reset the check engine light?! How come this was not a part of the video?!

Lynette Stewart says:

Is it possible if you use a different coolant than what the dealer uses it will make your check engine light come on… I was told my coolant thermostat needs to be replaced… prior my light for coolant came on and I went to O'Reilly and purchased some from there. Thanks

Well done!!

David Nguyen says:

Not Makita it’s a Milwaukee.

Al Clausen says:

Just a note that the Torx socket for the idler pulley is an E14 not E10 as per the thermostat.

Nice video, thank you! About to try it. Question: Instead of trying to move the Air Intake Housing, would it possibly be easier to unclip and remove the front part of the air intake housing to provide access to the bolts and possibly not have to remove the S-Belt? Thanks.

Jack Houriet says:

Extremely helpful. Just finished replacing my thermostat following your procedure. Thanks very much.

Pierre Christen says:

Superb, thanks a bunch!

Vincent Contorno says:

Thank you, Brian. Great video

Steven Ro says:

Milwaukee not Makita

Cory Randolph says:

Excellent video and instructions. I used this as reference and guidance to change the thermostat in a 2008 ML550. With the larger engine there is a bit less elbow room but your guidance was spot on.

Awesome work. Thanks

RayyGee100 says:

At the 3:01 mark, what the part u wipe down ?

RayyGee100 says:

What’s the name of the part on the car the thermostat was attached to? While removing the thermostat the bolt broke off and can’t reattach

Simon Z says:

Great video Brian and thank you for sharing. how common is it on the W164 to have a leaky oil pan gasket and if so can you do a video on one please? Thanks again

MessingAbout34 says:

Superb! Thanks.

Mark Latessa says:

Hi Brian, excellent video; my replacement went as smoothly as yours did in the video. One thing I would mention, after I finished, I could not clear the check engine light. I knew things were working properly and after about 100 miles of driving the check engine light cleared on it's own.

Alfredo A says:

any torque specs on the thermostat bolts?
