Do you pinch the two tabs on the connector or do they get splayed out to release the connector?

fupabox says:

if you have an old tensioner to try it on…sounds a bit risky as it may keep the tensioner from moving properly..I have the same diesel noise on my c230..annoying at drive through windows for sure

fupabox says:

I just use MAF sensor cleaner only..it’s designed to not harm or coat the sensor wires..make sure the sensor is out of the car when you do it

William Z says:

There are other videos on here of other cars making the same noises. Thought of filling the the tensioner pulley spring housing with silicone or RTV to see if that kills it.

William Z says:

Did that and it seemed to be searching for an rpm for a minute then evened out wit the rattle going in and out. Thinking that MAF may need cleaning and may do that today and recommendations for a cleaner besides MAF cleaner that I may have on hand such as electronic cleaner?

fupabox says:

I have a video posted about a week ago on it…essentially turn your key to position 2 without starting (all dash lights on) and leave it there for about 10 minutes..the electric throttle will re-learn where it should sit to get a better base idle speed..seemed to work for me and free to try..let me know if it works

William Z says:

How is that done then?

William Z says:

How is that done then?

fupabox says:

Have you tried the idle reset ? my idle raised a tiny bit (with a/c on)after I did that..it may help bring the rpms up enough that the buzzing goes away

William Z says:

If I grab the tensioner pully with a vise grip it goes away. It goes away as soon as it is off idle and isnt there at all at idle when there isnt any a/c or fan.

fupabox says:

Are you sure it’s coming from the tensioner? is it more of a buzzing ticking sound that smooths out with higher rpm ?

William Z says:

Any fixes for the knocking noise created by the idler pulley and tensioner shock at idle with a/c running? Replaced the pulley twice and the shock once noise still there people ask me if its a diesel!

Mike Pavlov says:

Great, thanks a lot. May be you should do a video about it as there is a lot of problems with the connectors falling a part due to heat. A lot of people asking in forums. Thanks again.

fupabox says:

I actually think they can go either way, but just in case..brown is the lower one

Mike Pavlov says:

I need help. I wanted to unplug Camshaft Solenoid Adjusted wire connector and it totally fall apart. NOW I DON”T know which wire goes where! There are 2 red and stripe wires soldered together and 1 brown wire. Connector is on the left side (passenger side). Do red wires go on the bottom or upper rounded Prong???? HELP

Sorry about my you tube useage here can’t get sending message on it right, so my direct E-maill is mulabate@gmail.com. If you found a bunch of repeat messages it’s cause I don’t use Youtube to communicate on & don’t know how it’s supposed to work it seems. But I certainly appreciate your helpful intentions with auto repair or trouble-shooting ways on video. Thanks.

>>>can’t see shit with this belly pan design! The kickdown switch works normal from 1-3 shift and i think it’s at the throddle-body near kickdown cable.Got full clean dextron 3 in it. Previous owner took it to oil shop for fluid change but if they never pulled the pan & chg trany filter that could retard the pressure but shift 1-3 seems smooth. What about all those upshifting emmision devices, pressure modulater etc? A/C relays are commonly near or in & around fuse boxes, is 85170 correct?

Peter Vandyke says:

fupabox, I wanted to thank you on your video tutorals I watched the Serpentine & Anntenna related to the 93 Benz 190E which will be spot on for me, and the quick response with my issues on this car. On the A/C relay -1205 you refer to I went to rockauto.com with “Dorman” Pn# 85170 showing a 4 or 5 wire relay, is there anyway with a voltmeter to identify if old 1 is bad before odering it? On the Trany shift selector seems tight but I got up under it last week looking for problems like you mention

fupabox says:

yes there are at least 2 ways the belt can wrap around all the pulleys and still work..I’ve seen a few that were wrapped incorrectly..the proper way should have no squeeling

oM Clutch says:

Mine makes a squealing noise as well. I changed the belt because it sounded worse before but I still think its on incorrectly. I’ve gone to the dealer and they gave me a diagram but it was not the same as the actual thing in my car.

fupabox says:

Hey Australia..thanks for the comment, glad it helped. BTW if you are done with summer can you send it North to where it’s supposed to be? 🙂 ..We had snow 3 days ago and that’s just wrong

This video REALLY helped to save me time! Thank you so much for sharing. I really like all of your videos, and have been replacing the same types of parts on my w202 as you have, so that has been really handy 🙂 Greetings from Australia

nordemoniac says:

I found out that Mercedes changed the part actually. So newer W202 has a tensioner with a shock mount, the old doesn’t. So if buying a new tensioner, you should install a new shock as well.. Dammit, need to find some bolts…

nordemoniac says:

First: Thanks for your videos, very helpful for a W202 owner 🙂
Second: I have a C180 ’98. I’m about to replace the tensioner and the tensioner pulley.
When I removed the tensioner pulley, I realized that my tensioner doesn’t have the hole for the tensioner shock! The new tensioner does though, and I bought a shock as well… Do you know if the new part needs the shock, or is it just for bigger engines maybe?

fupabox says:

not sure on the c200 .. I’m looking but can’t find any parts manuals that show a tensioner shock for the c200

Sam Orr says:

Ok! Thanks, I’ll get the number tomorrow. Mine is a C200 W202, gasoline 2.0l, I can’t even see a shock fitted. Did they all have one? Does it matter to not have one? Does it do any damage if it’s missing?

fupabox says:

yeah there were 4 different 2.0 litre w202s could be diesel sohc, diesel dohc, gasoline supercharged, or gasoline turbocharged…send me the last 6 digits of your vin # and I can find out which part you need

Sam Orr says:

Fupabox! I owe you a beer mate! If you ever get to the UK that is! I have one question on this, is the damper the same on my C200? It’s a W202, I’ve seen about 3 different parts, frustrating trying to find out which one it is!

fupabox says:

those things are all quite do-able for a novice, and all can and would be easiest to be done while doing the tensioner…the tensioner is a bit different on the c280 as it has a clutched engine driven fan so there is a bit less room to work than on the c230

Igaveyoumyfakename says:

Hi, I’m a repair novice and have a ’94 C280. My dealer says I need a whole front cover reseal: (replace belt, belt tensioner, belt shock, valve cover gasket, fan bearing gasket.) How much of this can be done while I’m doing the belt tensioner, and is this list a do-it-yourself job for a fairly handy novice? Thanks.
