Laughing at the guy who said only old folks buy s class.. sclass is one of the most sought after vehicles on the market by any age group. I have owned my 2003 s500 since 2008 I was only 22 when I purchased the vehicle and with the amg sports kit and 20inch rims it ain’t no granny vehicle. Sounds like you have never driven or let alone owned any type of Benz your speaking out of your ass. Also gm and jap cars require oil changes every 3k miles compared to every 10k with this particular sclass.

Hi MrRookie714,

Yes please send a picture. As a starting point check your oil dipstick to see where your oil level is at.

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi Impalor1979,

Its best to call a few dealerships and ask for special promotions and prices as each dealership could charge different prices based to location and season.

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi Benzguylv,

Thank you! We used a Canon T2i.

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi Orlan724,

Yes, please replace the old o-rings with the new ones that come inside your oil filter kit.

orlan724 says:

Did u replaced the 4 o rings with new ones?

D Gibson says:

Just so you know, you forgot to take off the filler cap, and pull out the dipstick before draining the oil. This is so a vacuum isn’t placed on a seal causing it to fail. You didn’t show or say anything about reinstalling the o-rings! Also, you should have mentioned that the reason behind not topping the oil level to the full mark, instead just half way up! Is, because the 8.5 qts of oil have a .5qt expansion when it is hot. Thus filing it with cold oil to full mark would overfill the system.

Hello thanks for your respond, I did reset the service indicator, however I am still getting the “engine oil level message with an image” is it ok if I send you a pic on your Facebook in a private message? Thanks

devildog832916 says:

nice and easy to follow…thanks

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi MrRookie714,

Are you referring to the oil service indicator? If so, we have a video on our channel titled “How to reset your 2001 Mercedes-Benz S500 service indicator” That video will show you how to remove the notification.

If your oil level is low please make sure there is 8.5 liters of oil in the engine before putting it in use. Also if you are using the oil level check feature, please make sure the car is on level ground.

MrRookie714 says:

Nice vid.. I followed every single step, but the engine oil level check level warning did not go away,.. Need help to remove it thnx

Patrick Akin says:

awesome…thank you

Phil Chew says:

Nice video but I’m a perfectionist and I would loosen the oil filter, cap and dip stick first before draining the oil pan plug to capture more old oil . Of course may sure the engine is warm too.

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi RKellyMask,

Always use full synthetic 0w-40.

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi Brett Duffy,

Yes, the oil is changed every 10k using only fully synthetic oil.

Brett Duffy says:

U change oil at 10k with full syn ???

RKellyMask says:

thank you for the video. is it better to use 0-40w or synthetic blend for s500?

Виктор Стоев says:

OK, im all good. But I dont have S500.

gtarules1 says:

Do you even DIY?

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi Ravi Rav,

Please replace the old O-Rings with the new O-Rings that comes with your oil filter kit.

godzillasballs says:

thanks for clearing that up 🙂

Freedomlover55 says:

I have a SH C-class that I bought 1 year ago ( 85 000 miles ) and I didn’t do anything on it other than the usual maintenence stuff- the previous owner didn’t have any problems either. The brakes are 200$ , all of them 8 pads together, the filters cost the same as any other brand. It’s not that much expensive if you are careful with the car and you don’t abuse it.

Ravi Rav says:

Great Video. My question is after removing the O-Rings do you replace them or just put the filter on? If you did replace them I didn’t see it.

godzillasballs says:

in some ways yes – you are, however, forgetting about brakes, tires, suspension, that dreaded a/c issue with s the S550 and so on – for the most part, if you lease, almost all issues are covered with the warranty – if you purchase to own, it can get expesive once the warranty runs out – did you lease or purchase?

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi Raul,

It is always recommended to use the correct weight oil for your car. 0w-40 will allow oil to lubricate smaller moving parts more rapidly. Also, try checking the spark plug wires as they tend to come loose and can simulate the lifter noise. Carbon buildup is a possibility as well. There are many options available on the market for treating carbon build up. As always, please consult your automotive professional for more detailed advice.

Raul Andrade says:

I have a lifter noise on my s430 would you recommend changing my oil to 0w-40w and could it be carbon build up

Freedomlover55 says:

You have a point, they do exagerate on some parts, I would say 20% of them are over-engineered. It took me 2 hours to figure how to remove the shift knob on a Mercedes. It’s ridiculous, I know what you mean, But I do have to contradict you on the cost of maintanance since most parts last longer and all you have to spend money on is oil , coolant , filters.

godzillasballs says:

don’t get me wrong, they drive phenomenal; like they are glued to the ground and more than adequate power. however, is 7-8 quarts of oil needed for a German v6 when only is 6 is needed for 5.3 v8 from GM. again, without the complicated filter or oil draining process. is it over kill, over engineering or poor engineering? i think the German engineers are a little anal. have you ever seen the amount of work it takes to change the timing belt on AUDI? again, solid car, but costly to maintain 🙂

Freedomlover55 says:

The quality is totally different in Mercedes cars compared to other Asian or American cars. The materials used are way better and the cars feel solid , unbreakable. Don’t forget that Mercedes invented the automobile and all the technology that you see today on most cars was invented by Mercedes ( ABS, ESP, safety features ). You have to own a Mercedes to see the difference which is considerable, trust me.

godzillasballs says:

I don’t see the difference in German engineering and any other make when it comes to automobiles. Asian and American cars go for hundreds of thousands of miles without the complications. Sure, performance is there with the Gremans. But, mostly, old, well to do folks buy the S class Benz. They hardly push them and they put regular because they lease. So, German engineers, i ask you: what’s up with all of the gimmicks?

mikeflemming711 says:

lol I diddnt think anyone who owns a Mercedes changed their own oil lol

comvertibleMAN says:

Just 2 questions: How do I replace in my year2003 SLK 230: Ignition coils. And how do I turn off the: CHECK ENGINE warning light? Does some one can assist? THX FOLKS

Vlad Mitrea says:

Nice diy, thanks! :)

SkipArtPictures says:

Hi Timetryp,

We recommend torquing all bolts to their proper torque specifications. If it’s possible try raising the car higher. You can also try changing the position of the torque wrench. For example, if your wrench handle is vertical in its starting position try starting from a horizontal position.

Timetryp says:

One has to be careful with the correct placement of the large O-ring on the oil filter plastic mount. I put it in the wrong position and oil sprayed everywhere when I started the engine – take careful note of its correct placement.

Timetryp says:

Do you really need to torque the oil drain bolt? I can’t get enough clearance underneath the car to properly use the torque wrench.

bryanb16th says:

great video.
However you did not mention how to install the new “o” rings.

RayVal53 says:

Idk about you Skip, but in my experience, “once youve followed the star, you never go back”.
