Keep the cap off on the reservior while turning the wheel from lock to lock position few times so as to remove the air from the fluid, rite?
And, from your experience how many fluid replacement cycle to complete the flushing?

fupabox says:

not as well..since the power steering fluid is constantly circulated the new will mix with the old and you will get “mostly” new fluid..the brake fluid at the end of the lines in the calipers always stays at the end of the lines…a tiny bit of mixing occurs as the pads wear down and more fluid takes up space in the caliper piston..the only real way to replace the fluid is to bleed it out

Mat Cendana says:

This may not be the best way to replace steering oil fluid since some of the old will be mixed with the new. BUT I’m okay with this because the fluid in the system is at least “better than before”. Don’t have to look for perfection – if a simple way works, then it’s good enough. Now I have an idea – would this same replacing method work with brake fluid?

fupabox says:

check the cap seal for leaks, also check the lines…groaning a bit at full lock usually means low fluid or air in the system…if there are no leaks and the fluid is full, remove the cap and slowly turn from full lock left to full lock right several times…this should push any air out ..then replace the cap..

My 99 w210 E300 steering wheel makes a “groan” noise when full steering the wheels, power steering fluid is full , its whistells when the steering wheel is in max position left and right , what ,might be the problem? sorrz for my english ,

fupabox says:

there are 3 bolts that hold the steering gear onto the frame ,on the inside of the wheelwell you will see the bolts (15mm I think) check that they are tight..also the support bearing for the steering shaft is possibly needing a bit if lubrication…if you remove the cover in the drivers footwell above the drivers legs you will see the steering shaft..and you will be able to see if the noise is coming from there or maybe something is rubbing on it…I don’t think it is your pump..

wadej88 says:

My 95 w202 steering wheel makes a “groan” noise when turning the wheel quickly, power steering fluid is full and added some power steering repair fluid but the problem persists, is this a sign the power steering pump is going bad?
The noise is coming directly from the steering wheel inside the cabin, inaudible in engine bay

fupabox says:

either one of the power steering hoses ,or the steering box is leaking…hoses are fairly cheap and simple to replace…the steering box is expensive, but can be rebuilt fairly cheaply, although it is fairly complicated to do

Bostonclassics1 says:

Thanks. My 1998 is making a groaning noise that is steering related. It needs refilling of steering fluid every 15 days. Do you have a video covering this mystery/issue? The E300D has 215K miles. Thanks.

fupabox says:

There’s no problem unhooking the top hose to replace it…I was just referring to which hose to unhook if you were going to flush with the engine running

Albanian07 says:

hello again In the begging of the video you were talking about the two hoses and which one to unplug. you said not to remove the top one the goes to the steering reservoir. Is there a reason why? Because that house is a a little cracked on my car and is seeping oil and I would like to replace it. I was thinking to remove as mush oil as I can with the baster and then unplug the upper hose and replace it.

damn….i thought this was my idea!!! i was walkin fukin tall that day boys…walkin tall…

fupabox says:

check your manual to see if it requires synthetic..after 2001 most did, some did as well in the 1990s…if it calls for synthetic ..use only Pentosin CHF 11S Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid..or equivalent ..2 litres will be fine for the turkey baster method

Te Volvereloco says:

How much oil should I buy? I have a 1999 c240.. Just get synthetic also?

Te Volvereloco says:

So basically, pulling out old oil, putting in some new to mix with old, turn with steering wheel, do it a few times until clear then add last amount and that’s it?

fupabox says:

swapping out 1 1/2 – 2 liters of fluid is about good to get most of the old out..Mercedes doesn’t recommend synthetic on older models, only after model years 2000 and up

TheAsiantard says:

Hey mate few questions. How many liters of power steering fluid does it need in regards to the baster method? Also is it ok to use synthetic fluids?

Secondly, when i press the accelerator pedal to activate the kick down switch ( Part # 004 545 17 14) nothing happens. Can it be the switch or the kick down relay ? I haven’t found the kick down relay in my car I’m not sure if there is one.

Shiraz4616 says:

Hey Fupabox

I have some questions about my car I’m not sure if you had these issues as well.

Sometime the ABS BAS ASR light will come on while I’m driving or when I start the car. If the car is turned off the lights will not come back on again it just happens randomly. I have heard that this can be caused by the brake light switch (Part # 001 545 01 09). Have you ever had this problem ?

My car is a 1999 W202 C200 sedan.

TheMDHouse007 says:

thank ya sir! Had to get a new one b/c mine flew open like 20 min after i bought it back in march!! I got the new one on but its not lined up 100%. Im thinking it is b/c the hinges got bent wen the hood flew open…working on it a lil more after work tomorrow

fupabox says:

first off..don’t try it alone…2 people preferably 3 needed…raise the hood to its highest straight up position so the springs have the least tension on them…unhook the wire to the heated washer nozzles and the hose for the nozzles as well….remove the 3 10mm bolts from each side at the rear (put something protective over the windshield on the off chance you drop it..it’s heavy) ..once the 3 bolts are out of each side lift the hood upwards off the locating lip on the hinge backs..

TheMDHouse007 says:

Hey fupabox! how ya been? got a question unrelated to this vid. i need a new hood terribly and found one, but have no idea whats involved in taking mine off and putting new one on. help? lol thanks!!!

fupabox says:

you’re absolutely right..the flushing isn’t that difficult but has a slight chance of screwing up if you don’t keep up with the refilling and allow air in…I decided if I was going to show this,I would show the fool proof method… thanks for the input,it’s appreciated 🙂

Shiraz4616 says:

I also own a 1999 W202 C200 (right Hand Drive) Sedan and I have done a few repairs on my own. I did however change the power steering fluid the harder way by flushing out all the old fluid and replacing it with genuine Mercedes Benz fluid, didn’t have any problems doing it. Apart from sucking out the old fluid from the reservoir and disconnecting one of the hoses, I filled it up and was pouring in new fluid while the old fluid was being flushed out.

fupabox says:

the older mercedes used auto tranny fluid for power steering (just a slightly different form of hydraulic fluid) but they changed in the 1990s to regular power steering fluid…and to synthetic in the 2000s it all depends on the model …I used Prestone for GM Ford and Daimler Chrysler vehicles…checked my buddy at a Mercedes dealership and he said for the w202 it has the same specifications as GM power steering fluid and Prestone is fine

Juan Felipe Hoyos Mesa says:

petty good, but i am confused
i remeber, the oil for steering is dexron II, used for gearbox, not steering fluid, is that steering fluid dexron II?, can u solve my doubt?

fupabox says:

yup an easy (some say lazy 🙂 ) but safer and cleaner way to do it

Nima someh says:

thnx man, I didn’t even knew this method lol .
