The MitiVac takes some getting used to, but once you use it a few times
it’s as easy as pie. The trick to the MityVac is you want to make sure the
oil’s been warmed up prior to vacuuming it out. This makes it come out a
lot faster and easier. After you’ve warmed the oil, make sure you allow
enough time for it to settle back down in the pan. Another tip especially
with the German cars and canister filters, such as the video shows, make
sure you loosen up the filter cap first. This releases the oil to the pan
and allows for you to efficiently pull all of the oil out. Also for those
who have a hard time pulling it out, try measuring the dipstick against the
extractor tube and that will give you a good measure to put it in. If you
go too far it misses where the oil sits in the pan and it can kink the
tubing. Like I said, it takes getting used to but once you do it a few
times it’s easy as hell. I have the manual pump vac btw.

BTW I’d like to hear more from the mechanic of 25 years as to why he
recommends against the vac? I don’t understand the logic. Besides doing
it this method gives you the advantage of not having to replace the plug
and or washer, or even worse over tightening it/strippin the threading on
the pan..You do that and you will be set back a few hundred dollars….

why does everyone use these oil evacuators on mercedes, theres literally a
plug on the bottom of every single car on the planet that has oil in it

israel ruvalcaba says:

just open the oil drain plug

Paul Young says:

I tried using my miti vac extractor to remove the oil. It got about two
quarts and that was it. I then had to jack up the car and pull the plug. It
seem like the dipstick drops into a small chamber in the oil pan. This
makes it so the extraction tube can’t go to the bottom of the oil pan.
Anyone else have this problem?

Pro job! I did notice oil sitting looked like diesel formula. It has fewer
additives. Mobil 1 0w40 will much more safely let you go the long

Please don’t use a mitt vac, as a mechanic of 25 years it’s really not that
hard to remove the drain plug and drain the oil. Oil and filter is around
$100 and the dealer charges in my area $99 to have them do it.

Hey big dog thanks for the video. What size tool do you need to remove the
oil filter cap?
