Where can I get those z wrenches .no auto parts store around Bradford Vermont has any

MercedesDieselGuy says:

Thanks for the note. I’m probably going to re-shoot this video on my 240D some time in the future.

Just a note. Either nut can be used to adjust the spacing, and either one can lock against it. As long as the two nuts are locked against each other after the clearance is made, you are good to go. I point that out only because a newbie watching the video might over think it and get frazzled over which one was supposed to do what.

No actual adjustment procedure shown, boo!

I would say that it does make a difference. Also, my big tip on this one is to let the car cool overnight and do the valve adjustment completely cold, using the cold settings. No chance of thermal expansion/contraction that way.

i found the remains of the “note” on the valve cover it said the distance sould be 0.10mm and 0.30mm on cold engine and 0.15 and 0.35mm on hot engine, could 0.05mm make a big difference? Lets say 0.006 instead of 0.004 inches.

Regards.

MercedesDieselGuy says:

Offhand, I don’t know the metric equivalent. It should be printed on a tag on the radiator support panel.

coolakiIlen007 says:

do you know the messure in millimeters? i think the exhaust should be 0.3mm and intake 0.15mm. could it be correct?

Or get yourself a repair manual, in there it should tell you step by step on how to tackle the procedure 🙂

MercedesDieselGuy says:

That’s an entirely different engine, so I can’t say for sure. I don’t know if it has mechanical or hydraulic valve adjusters. But, valve adjustments aren’t typically a big deal. If you find a reputable shop that has familiarity with the car, I would guess $200 or less for the job. But, that’s just a guess.
