Cost of doing business, staying in business… Hourly labor rate, may be close to 100 per hour? 1 to 2 hour job.
Also, how much would you typically charge for a job like this – just for labor? I can’t see it taking a skilled mechanic more than an hour. I was quoted over $200 at the Mazda dealer.. Seems like a huge ripoff to me.
I need to do this on my 2006 Mazdaspeed 6. It looks pretty much the same judging from the placement of the thermostat. I’m pretty sure it’s the same 2.3L DISI engine, isn’t it? The MS6 is turbocharged but I think it’s basically the same engine. Question; Is the gasket that thin rubber piece that slides in edge-wise? I was thinking the gasket was gonna be flat like you find on engine gaskets but it appears to create a seal by smashing the rudder down as it’s tightened.

Getting ready this weekend to change out my son’s thermostat. He’s got codes P0126-Coolant Temp Insufficient stable operation & P0128-Coolant Temp below thermostat regulating temp. Pretty sure this will take care of the problem. Thanks for posting!
