First, thanks for this video. The forums rx8club.com and my rx8 friends have
all made this job sound a lot harder than it really looks, the carbon
driveline being of great concern along with the beam that supports the
transmission to the rear. My 04 rx8 gt will idle clutch engaged,so yeah
Time for a new one. I got a exedy stage one and was planing on a shop to do
the labor, the shops prices are outrageous for this . If I can find a lift
I’m just going to tackle it on my own. Thanks agin and wish

matti2020 says:

How long did this take from start to finish?

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

Without being there to run some test and actually hear it it sounds like
it’s the throwout bearing when in neutral which are very noisy in this car.
I would check your fluid level for the clutch as well as change the fluid
in the transmission first before tackling a new clutch. Also check the
clutch pedal for breaks and adjustment. Hope it’s a quick simple fix to
help with the grinding, but the noise you will have to get a clutch kit if
you want it gone.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

If you have a good impact gun to get the nut off the flywheel, that or a
holder. Might be a little difficult, but it can be done. Might need to get
the socket to fit the flywheel nut also. Try and get it somewhat off the
ground good so you have enough clearance to drop everything.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

I didn’t think it was too hard. Some good air tools and you’ll more then
likely zip through it. Glad this video helps, good luck. You can get all
the specs at the club.

Luis M says:

i just buy the F1 RACING STAGE 2 PERFORMANCE STREET CLUTCH KIT SET but not
the flywheels i leave the stock in there , any suggestion is this going to
be a problem please let me know thank you

Repomex01 says:

took me two hours to drop tranny with hand tools and 4 jack stands.. the
stall came when that big ass 2″ nut that holds the flyweel in place( did
not have size).

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

@Repomex01 I had the socket for that, but didn’t have a puller lol, off to
lowes for bolts.

Snowflow1988 says:

is it necessary that you have a counterweight if you buy the streetlite
flywheel?

felplay vina says:

Hi have a problem with my clutch pedal, I can not make any gear shifting
does this car have clutch master cylinder? how can I fix this problem..

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

Yes it is a must. No problems since either.

larpt23 says:

@SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 hey.. mine grinds in 4th gear when i change my gear
exactly in 7000 rpms. im playing on buying a new cutch any suggestions in a
good one thanks.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

@larpt23 ACT and BHR are the ones I like, but it’s all up to your opinion
and what you wanna spend. Remember you get what you pay for (sometimes).
Just make sure to get some good fluids in there like Amsoil or Eneos, which
are my favorites. Also take note that the grind might be there still
depending on all the conditions of everything else. I’ll send you some more
info here.

boyum says:

what about just the clutch and leave the stock flywheel on there? I blew my
clutch the other day

NoobProjectCar says:

so did you do the counterweight? how has it been since?

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

Sorry, we were going on a 14 hour day by the time we got to this. Thanks
for reminding me though since I have this on the 8 site and had some people
give pictures of the counter weight installed.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

Have you adjusted the clutch pedal? There are adjustments for the plunger
and the specs can be downloaded on the RX8 site. Sorry it took so long, we
are swamped up here.

Greg Allen says:

Nice video ! I just bought a exedy clutch and BHR flywheel gettin ready to
get them installed and was curious how everything would look taken apart.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

@swampdonkey86 Thank you. Glad this video is helping people out.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

Are you sure everything went in properly also and lined up? How’s your
clutch pedal feel, and also how about the fluid/level?

Ali Bubba says:

i got my nuts of….ehhehehehehe(childish laugh)

michael bryan says:

what about the counter weight??? would have been helpful to show that part

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

@sloan2007 Wanted to upgrade mainly, but I did get a little grind going
into fourth at high rpms so I replaced everything and it has been working
smooth ever since. Haven’t had any problems yet (knock on wood) lol.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

Sorry it takes us so long. Might want to check the pedal to make sure it
didn’t snap from the firewall since that is a recall and very common
problem. Was it driving fine right up till it happened? Any noises before,
during, after? Will it go into gear without the car on? How many Miles?

Alpvaz v says:

I have a question, I did the same set as you did, but my car wont go in to
any gear unless is off.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

@levisallc Shouldn’t be a problem unless it states you have to change the
flywheel. Always best to double check with the manufacturer.

boyum says:

So do you think your average guy with your average set of tools be able to
pull this off?

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

@sloan2007 I believe it was around 90-100k, and I did it myself, so for
free.

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

Clutch shouldn’t be too bad just make sure to have the alignment tool,
usually a new kit comes with them. If your going in there I would probably
do the flywheel with a performance one. Don’t forget you can also rent
tools from places like autozone and I think advanced does it too.

andymcq2509 says:

Hi,I have problem getting from 1st into 2nd gear,very loud grind noise,but
no problems from 3rd going into 2nd! All other gear changes are fine, also
lately when I park up and put into neutral and let go off clutch,as clutch
pedal comes up there is a rattle type noise heard, please advice me. many
thanks:)

SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 says:

@matti2020 6-8 hours, but we had couple other cars to work on that came to
the shop, and we talk a lot lol.

larpt23 says:

@SYNTHETICDARKNESSRX8 cool im gonna spend good money in something good and
i havent find any other issues besides that one gear, but like i said its
only when i hit 7000 rpms if its lower or higer is fine lol. pretty weird

whitedragonsreviews says:

u can get the clutch off easy enough but unless you have a compressor
flywheel puller and holder and a 54mm socket u wont be able get flywheel
off

Dariel Collazo says:

wow. my does that when i release the clutch pedal ..
