Plastic sleeve is made from polypropylene black tube (9/3” ID, 3/8”OD,
about ½ inches long) from Grainger Bushing is 3/8” ID, 13 mm thk and
approx. 13 mm OD (I machined it from larger ¼ inch thick brass washer)
E-ring for shaft diameter 3/8 is from Mc Master Carr
I saw snap ring on later model Ford escape. So far I have repairde 2 SUVs
both beloning to my relatives (the second one was close to the point of
failure) the repair kit sold online costs $30 with delivery and requires
modification of the transmission lever
Where do you get the parts to repair the cable?
I eventually came up with two spacers, and center “sleeve” and a snap ring
to repair the cable end. It looks as though it may be a common problem, and
repairing the cable makes more sense than a $85-170 cable plus 4-5hrs labor
to replace. Thanks for your post, it was very helpful. Jeff
