James Savak says:

How can i get a diagram of the Mazda MPV 2004 es ? I found a used ine but
looks like a bit of water damage. Im not sure where the transmission isn
thismcar. Im thinking its ilocated towards the from , and itlooks as though
the casing has rut and rot on it and may be able to poke my finger through
itifi oressed hard . I did take it for amtest drive at about 40 mph and it
ran fine .

spelunkerd says:

Thanks for posting that technique of bumping the starter to mount the belt.

LeakyDiaper says:

Wish it was that easy on a Honda.

YOUR THE BEST I LOVEYOU

CoolasIce2 says:

I think I’ll stay with regular neoprene belts.

David Lowe says:

Well I learned two useful things on that video. 1) The gasket spray – very
useful. 2) The method of putting the belt on – ingenious! Thanks for making
the video.

chopywatersofmantuki says:

if the belts designed to roll on, why cant you just roll it off? seems
stupid to cut a perfectly good belt….

sbakar says:

@Bushougoma If the person looking at the belt is informed enough to know
the difference between a standard and an EPDM belt then most likely the
person will be conscientious about other things, too. I’m more concerned
about how long it will take for people to catch on to this relatively new
belt design, and how many EPDM and standard belts will be installed
incorrectly in the mean time.

studpuppy69 says:

@chopywatersofmantuki He said the procedure is to cut the old belt off. The
old belt was slipping and moving around its probably worn. How do you know
the belt was good? Were you there? What do you define as a perfectly good
belt? It makes more sense to spend a few bucks and replace the belt when
you replace the water pump and be done with it.

G. G. says:

@chopywatersofmantuki Since is so tight it will be hard to pull it out. U
can always stuck a very tiny piece of plastic int the pulley grove so when
it turns the belt will be higher than the groove and start pulling from
there with the cranking system, still needs to be a very tiny piece in
order to not stretch the belt

xtremecampos says:

Thank you for exellent tip with the belt!!

tbz02 says:

is this the same procedure for the tribute? thanks

chrluc says:

Excellent video, one of the best car repair videos I’ve seen!

howieoct5 says:

Have you ever thought of using a laser pointer in you presentations?

mss829 says:

Well done guys, I guess if you really didn’t want to cut the belt, it could
be taken off by the same cranking procedure as installing it, if you’re
short on cash maybe.

cv1980mv says:

Awesome, better detailed than this you cannot get!!

texan176 says:

The customer was lucky it was not a timing belt driven pump. Otherwise, the
labor cost would soar.

Scott McClintock says:

WOW.. You did a great video! I’ve done many and also watched many.. I’m
sure you get a lot of requests.. I stumbled upon your video searching for
the 2002 626 Belts W/P+ALT. This was the first time I have ever seen a car
that requires the belt to be cut.. and re-install requires cranking the
engine.. Watch those fingers !!! – Thank you.

Gary Anderson says:

pretty wild way to get a belt on, haven’t seen that one before. Nice vid

sdeery says:

Is the impeller plastic ? sdeery

sbakar says:

These EPDM belts save the manufacturer a tensioner pulley but they wear out
without cracking, and I wonder how the tension holds up over its lifetime.
Ford/Mazda have been one of their biggest supporters. The new Ford Fiesta
uses this desgn too.

Gary Anderson says:

@sdeery definitely, some OE designs are this way, as well as aftermarket.
Mostly to save on price

Michiganborn1969 says:

Great video. Especially the part about putting the new belt back on. I
myself since I have large hands would have removed the battery in order to
give myself that much more room to work with, even if it’s just an inch or
two.

pfcwar5150 says:

as you take the bolts out, put them in your new water pump so you keep
track of the size and position. when you get the old pump out, transfer the
bolts from the new one to the old one.
