Mazda 6 headlight issue

I have never had a vehicle that required regular headlamp replacements. At approximately 40000 miles the passenger headlamp stopped working. I went to the l…

I feel for all of you encountering headlight failures. Here in Australia,
we have Japanese manufactured Mazda 6 models, my 2009 model included, which
is a smaller car than the North American manufactured model.
We’ve never encountered headlight issues here. In fact, Mazda 6, the 3 and
the other models in our range, the Thailand built Mazda BT-50 series
haven’t had major issues at all.

Kevin Colgate says:

Well i was about to tear into changing the bulb this morning and saw
this…worked! I have a 2012 and u would think they would have fixed this
after 3 years!

Matthew Glynn says:

This worked for my 2010 mazda 6, i’ve been replacing headlights regularly
at the dealership so it must be a scam by those japanese

JulianShagworthy says:

Oh crap lol – I just bought this model and was relieved to be rid of the
problem you’re mentioning here on the PREVIOUS model! On the bright side,
there’s far worse things to go wrong with cars, good video though :)

Kristyn Marie says:

I have the same car, 2009 Mazda 6 and over the last few weeks started
encountering the same problem. Thankfully I googled it and found this
video! Worked for me as well! What a shame that there has not been a recall
on this. 118 comments here alone, that should be proof enough that it is a
design flaw! I wonder what we else can do to get Mazda North America to
respond .. I would hate to have to pay out of pocket for the repairs, if
they are even doable -__-

SomaComa89 says:

Same issue with my 2007 6i (driver side). I did the Fonzie trick until it
stopped working :/ I’m in the process of trying to diagnose the issue

Marie Santillan says:

bought my mazda 6 2012 last year and the driver side went out!! Am going to
try what you did because I can’t fix it myself since the cover doesn’t
simply pop off.

Heather Kerns says:

This is too funny. My boyfriend and I were JUST in the process of changing
the bulbs on my passenger side. Identical car. 55k miles. I just happened
to YouTube this real quick. I showed him what you did and he tried it.
Voila’ , light came on! Thanks for posting this!!!

Karla Griffith says:

Same thing just happen to my sister, she has a 2010 Mazda 6. She tried the
trick and it work. She had to hit it several times, you may have to apply a
little force not too much where you damage it.

Richard Valletta says:

This was great advice. Bought bulbs yesterday because my passenger lamp was
out. Thought the same things that there is no way it should be out already.
Just saved $50!!

Tammy Soileau says:

i have a 2012 mazda 6 and i had one go out about two weeks ago and now the
other one went out i have only had the car for a year. Not cool and not
happy because you cant change it yourself that is bs. I am going to try and
hit it tomorrow like you showed in video i hope that works and if so i am
going to the dealer ship and they best fix the problem. I have never had a
light go out that quick in a car.

Allen Davis says:

My passenger side headlight was out. I tried this and it worked. Wonder if
mazda will do anything.

Raymond Keys says:

Thank you so much for this! This really worked! I even took the light bulb
back and got a refund!

Hao Dang says:

I have same problems! what should I do to fix it?

Sarah Munger says:

I have a 2012 mazda 6, passenger lowbeam went out around 23K then a month
later my driver went out. I have 45K miles now on it and my passenger just
went out again. Tried your trick and it didn’t work…. very frustrated!!
Going to show this video and comments to Mazda dealership tomorrow.

Deb McCormick says:

Wow this is exactly true on my 2010 Mazda 6 I did exactly that hit light
assembly and light came back on so it’s a real problem the dealership needs
to figure this out and fix the issue for free

Jessica Wright says:

It didn’t work for my 2012 Mazda 6 🙁 how hard do you have to hit it?

Car Jen says:

My wifes 2010 cx-7 had the sane issues with both HID lights. Went through
this bang ritual every night for a year. Until it quit all together. These
are definitely flawed. Great car other than that.

Brad K says:

Worked like a charm on my 2010 Mazda 6. Zoom zoom

nora says:

This worked perfect! Thank you!

deborah lwhite says:

Thank you for the video! I own a 2006 Mazda and had the same issue with the
headlight. I followed your tip and amazingly my headlight is working. It
has been only a week so we will see. I was told it was an electrical
problem.

pickledbomber says:

you just save me sooo much time and money with this video. THANK YOU!!!!

bkb670sv says:

Is this a mazda issue or a ford issue. Do fords have the same problem?

Travis B says:

This actually worked. I think Mazda needs to do something about it. It can
be a safety issue.

katylanden11811 says:

Hmmm ok i’ll do that. That kind of sucks but I still love my car. I just
hope nothing else odd goes on with it. Do u have any other complaints about
ur car other then the headlight? I think I have a fuel issue sometimes it
hesitates on take off n when I decelerate. I have same mileage as u.. do u
have this issue

TMM2112 says:

I have the same problem with a 2010 Mazda 6, on driver side, along with
rattles and other issues. And it is a ridiculous task to replace headlamps.
I also think I will never be buying another Mazda product every again.
Their quality rating is nonsense. I have had several quality related issues
and their response is idiotic. The dealership is nothing but an ATM machine
that only takes money. My opinion; Mazda’s are a piece of shit.

Proto Man says:

I have a 2009 Mazda6 i and also have the same problem, but with the driver
side bulb. Following your advice, I gave the headlight a quick smack and it
came right back on. Thank you so much!

suzanne stone says:

same exact issue!… i think lol. mines a 2011 Mazda 6 and its the
passenger side. the blinker works and everything just the high and low
beams went out yesterday! im gonna try ur “technique” when i get off work
and we shall see! this is freakin crazy 🙁

shalansteg89 says:

I have the exact same problem with my 09 Mazda 6 that has 45, 000 miles.
Ive replaced the bulb twice myself and multiple times at the dealer, but
the car is going back to the dealership this week. Mazda really needs to
address this issue.

Heather Pabian says:

I just ran into the same problem. I was about to buy a new bulb until I
seen this. I went out and hit it and it came back on;(

rabmparker says:

Yeah, that’s the going rate for a light bulb replacement. Unless you want
to remove the wheel well liner and replace it yourself. I need to look into
the 2014 model on the replacement.

rabmparker says:

You may want to verify that this is indeed a bulb issue, by removing the
bulb yourself. The dealership I go to guarantees the bulb replacement
service for 12 months.
