Great video man. But quick question.. I can’t find any videos on how to
change the transmission filter for a Mazda 6. Seeing as the cars are both
Mazda do you think it’ll be close to your mazda 3 when changing it? Just
trying to gauge what I’ll be like when I lift my car up and take the
plastic guard off.

Dayne Diniz says:

Question for you…I have an automatic 2007 Mazda3 Sport (hatchback..I
think I have a GS?). My question is what exact products did you use? I see
the Fram FT1210 filter kit, but I’m not sure where to find it (I’m from
Canada). Also, is that Castrol Import MV ATF? The latter is easy to find at
Wal-Mart, and thanks for the video. I’m debating doing it myself because a
shop wants to charge me around $160 to flush/change it (I just got the car
used…I prefer to start off with new fluids as the oil has just been
changed). Please let me know. Thanks!

do u know why my car would sometimes not want to shift into a higher gear?
sometimes the AT light comes on and it may shift 1, 2,3 then wont shift to
4. Any suggestions?

Oscar Papa says:

hey how do u know the transmission oil need changing?

Kyle Stacey says:

Hi Rich,

Is this the 4 speed auto or the 5 speed?

Thanks!

Question, I changed out my fluid and filter this weekend and not wanting to
tighten the plug too tight ended up leaving it a little loose. Had a small
drip, tightened it back up no problems. Checked the fluid yesterday and it
was only coming up to maybe a 1/3 on the 20 degree C side. So I added a
little more fluid and this morning the damn thing leaked again. Any
thoughts?

James Caballero says:

Hi, Great video, I just heard a sound in my car mazda 3 and is not passing
40 mph,, I checked the ATF and there is a light color on the tip of the
mesuring device or between 2 lines, how much fluids do you think it needs?

Edward Ramp says:

excellent walkthrough, thanks!

Edwin Delgado says:

How did you manage to remove that pink gasket, mine was in really tight so
i didn’t bother risking taking the pan off.. 🙁

You my friend, are the best!
Thanks a lot for yours videos. I have a Mazda 3 2008 R, and your videos
saved my life ;)

kevin Martinez says:

this is a mazda 3 right? and also what are the problems that cause when
the transmission filter is dirty ? like my car sometimes is slow to start
and takes kinda long to make a change

molefighter1 says:

If I just do a drain and refil… Only 3 quarts of oil will come out
draining from the pain correct? Therefore there it wouldnt be necessary to
buy 8 quarts for the 2.3L Engine.

Irakli Chakaberia says:

So there are 7 bolts? and 2 pop-up plastic pins? How many of them have
clip-buts?

Peter Ingram says:

GREAT directions. Just did this on my ’08 Mazda5 with 74,500 miles on it.
Tranny oil was BLACK. First owner was a mechanic, and he told me he’d
flushed the tranny fluid, but the pan’s gasket looked original. So I did
your flush procedure and changed the filter.

Thanks for taking the time to post this instructional video. I couldn’t
have done this without your guidance.

Cheers!

Raandicakes says:

Thanks so much, your video was so helpful

tony O says:

great video keep them coimg, i did eveything the same but i used castrol
multi import, since castrol listed on there web suited for mazda m-v.

ghostlyrich says:

i have read the document before. Alot of local transmission shops put
mercon 5 in 😀 i even heard of mazda dealers using it because the mpv and
m5 is way to expensive

Enrico Gonzales says:

Too much talking, too much info…show something !

Stronin says:

At least for the ’08 model Mercon 5 will cause noticeable shift shock if
used. I think Mazda changed the transmission specs for the later models. So
fluid that’s specifically noted as compatible w/ ATF-MV is important, but
not for the 06′ or probably older models

ghostlyrich says:

mercon 5.

Jeremiah Lee says:

Thanks so much for the great video. Quite useful!

Victor SwagDaddy says:

Yeah we just got a 04 Mazda 3 Hatch for me and i checked the Tranny Fluid
it was nasty. i went out and bought oil and new filter. Thanks
