Like everyone says…PITA… but I did myself a favor and dropped the last screw on reinstall…I say fuck the last screw!!! My wife has allergies and so I’m doing this job every year or so… this is the 4th time… can’t wait till next year, no dirty little fourth screw!!!

We have a ’12 Mazda5. Filter change went exactly as this video. It is a real PITA, for sure.
I went nuts trying to find where the filters are. Most cars have them behind the glove box. I couldn’t even find the instructions in the Manuel. Thanks for posting this

Just changed my 2010 5. Thanks for the vid! I’m 5’11” and not exactly svelte or young, so though it was somewhat of a contortionist act to get underneath (see my size again), it was all done in less than 10 minutes. BTW, you do NOT have to remove the panel from the two electrical connectors/wires … it will just hang there out of the way. Trying to keep the upper filter “up” was the hard part, and is where the contortionism came into play, because it took both hands. Normal people can do it
how about 2004 Mazda 3 ?I think it is in different location.I removed that panel with 3 screws on mine and the cavity is empty.

thanks guys! Just saved me some money. But yeah I think mazda really wanted you to take these in. Ever tried to change the battery on one? It’s also an ordeal.
Yeah, the 5 doesn’t have much space to work in – I can only imagine how small the space is in the 3. We’ve been looking for a 3 to get a video of but we haven’t had any luck yet. If you do end up changing the filter, let us know what was different!
haha, fair enough. I’ve read this is even more complex on a 3 then a 5 unfortunately…. mazda really wanted this to be something you take to their dealers I’m guessing.

man this is crazy! way easier to do this on my civic. can change that filter in about 15 seconds sitting in the driver seat. might rethink doing this on my girlfriend’s 3…
I changed mine summer of 2010 and it was a pain in the butt. Mazda did not design this without considering ease of replacement in mind since this is can be a reqular owner maintenaned item. Price of cabin filters here in Canada is just retarded, purchased mine on-line and had it shipped to me for less than half of Canadian prices.
