At Transmission Shop for 8 MONTHS?? Fixed in 15 MINUTES!! (Mazda 6 Stuck in 3rd P0328)

This is a fun one 🙂

Owner brought his 2007 Mazda 6 wagon on a trailer from 3 hours away.
He says that the car has been at a Transmission Shop for 8 MONTHS because it’s stuck in LIMP MODE, with only Reverse and 3rd GEAR available.
The shifts are extremely VIOLENT as well.
New TCM, ECM, etc. have been installed to no avail.
No TCM codes stored, and the PCM has a hard P0328- Knock Sensor Circuit Fault.

Let’s see if we can make heads or tails out of this Mystery Mazda, and get the transmission back to proper operation… you won’t believe what we find!

I blame Mazda it makes no sense to make the tcm go in limp mode because a bad knock sensor.

follow the data… the truth shall set you free!

but why half a gas of tank though, i mean why so much?

John Doyle says:

Yes, I know you are good, but the previous shop was seriously bad. Imagine being without your car that long for what turned out to be a simple fault, yes simple for you. Google is your friend in these cases, so much knowledge out there, and freely shared.

Yeehaw says:

Reminds me of my 1999, dodge ram 318 transmission problem that was related to the oxygen sensor as they were on the same circuit.

Love your thought process. Great job Ivan!

DAMN…..YOU'RE STUPID !!!!!!

truracer20 says:

Who DIDN'T suspect a knock sensor code could cause a limp mode issue? Since the engine didn't exibit signs of detonation, pre-ignition or a miss why not diagnose the knock sensor code first just as Ivan did? But no, they went for the expensive TCM, then the PCM. All while a sensor that is important to engine longevity is screaming I'M BROKEN.

The Black Hand says:

Scandalous! All of it. Except the 15 min. repair and placing a new battery. Well done!

Bruce Inraleigh says:

Knock sensor causes limp mode???
It seems that cars today are over-engineered.

What's next? Maybe "seat belt not buckled causes trunk lid to open".

Ricknel76 Nelson says:

Had a problem with a Mk2 Ford Focus.
The LCD screen on the dash was going haywire, Scrolling continuously.
Internet search said faulty screen, try to disconnect battery for 30 minutes.
Only fix it for a short time. My wife also mentioned a slight engine miss at take off.
Car needed a new ignition coil, 1 was faulty.
Dash issue was caused by faulty coil.

Judge Roy Bean says:

Unbelievable is the word …. wonder what the customer paid beforehand….

speed Demon IA says:

With my daughter's Scion IA / Mazda 2 when replacing the battery you need to turn it on without lights or a/c let it sit for 20 mins at idle then another 20 mins loaded with lights on. and a/c on. Without doing this we get a sluggish drive and shift shutters

Raymond Horvatin says:

Another fantastic finish
