Lotus headlamp repair

Lotus headlamp repair

Rather than spend AU $200.00 on a new headlamp cover I made an aluminium piece to fit where the broken plastic was. Stronger than original! part 2 shows the final repair. PT 2 here – https://youtu.be/n4ANXSVoDdw

I might have to re-do this video. The sound has gone out of sync for some reason.

That was all very resourceful and thrifty of you! It doesn't really look as if plastic fibreglass is meant to last a lifetime, though. Will they be able to print plastic components with plastic-resin inks on inkjet printers in the foreseeable future? Probably. They say you can print a revolver gun, nowadays. I notice fibreglass skylight roofing is picked at, by sparrows, as they use the fibre for nesting material. I don't think it could last for decades in Australian UV without eventually fracturing. I don't know how long the manufacturers guarantee the stuff for, but it is only fibreglass. There's another more transparent perspex-like variety of roof sheeting called Alsynite. Polycarbonate stuff like glass that you can buy from Bunnings. Is polycarbonate as tough as fibreglass? At least your Lotus is housed in a garage out of the strong sunlight. Even old rusted car bodies, abandoned in the bush, well, even their colours fade in the sun and rain, eventually. Not all pigments stay colour-fast forever. I wouldn't expect the life of plastics/resins to be as long as that for baked-on enamel duco. Hmm. Do they still make those transparent polycarbonate bumper bars? They looked very modern 30 years ago!
