Jack Beanstalk says:

Do Americans need such huge cars because they’re so fat?

mr .boggle says:

Whoa! 5:21, Was that a Concord?

lin G says:

350 hp Lotus vs a 300 hp Mustang. The stats alone would have determined
this race. Love the show but didnt find the point in this comparison.

Devan Neeley says:

Ok. So. They put a lightweight car that turns better against a car that
is heavier and is made more for straight line drags? Ok.

Örs Simon says:

It all comes down to different points of view. American muscle is really
focusing on only one aspect of a car: power. Most of the times it doesn’t
even focus on delivering it, which is whi weels spin out all the time, the
car is unstable, no aerodinamic elements, alomost no help at all to control
that power. It’s MUCH more dangerous to do 250 KPH in a muscle car than in
a sports car. I can understand fanatic’s love of muscle, but I don’t think
which nation makes it has any relevance. Any decent race track has corners,
“racing” in general means going around a track as fast as you can. For that
you need stability. For a fast car to be good, you not only need power, you
need the proper tools to handle that power safely (spoilers, car shape, air
vents, driving aids, intelligent onboard computer, good axels, and many
many more tchnical stuff i don’t know about). Actually James said at some
point: Why would i want a car that’s trying to kill me all the time? Don’t
get me wrong, there are MANY european, italian, or even british cars that
had been built focusing on one aspect of its speed only, thus making them
equally crappy as a muscle car. A good car has to be good in the most
things possible. Plus if you buy a car that expensive you’ll want to use it
on the road too, and you don’t want to die in a rainy corner with your kids
in, just because it feels good to have more power than you can handle. A
muscle car is like a rollercoaster, it’s great for getting a unique feel
you can’t get anywhere else, but it’s just not practical in real life, like
a juiced up kid from the gym, that has an incredibly muscled model body,
but then loses to an average handballer, or an amateur karate lover, just
because they out-smart him. Brute force is not the answer. I ADORE some
muscle cars, great to look at, but if i could choose, i would always rather
sit in a sports car that has ABS, limited slip dif, carbon brakes, advanced
ECU, and all sorts of things that can keep me alive, like a low ride, and a
stable body and so on:) Cheers:)

StR1K3R3183 says:

Why is every car comparison on Top Gear EU always unfair/pointless. For
example, the on of the Porsche Turbo vs the VW Beetle, I mean, really? That
video was pretty pointless. And I hate the Mustang, why not put it up
against a cheaper Miata or something, oh right…Top Gear doesn’t like to
make the Euro cars look bad against foreign competitors….

Corey Gibson says:

He should have used my Mustang Shelby Cobra Super Snake with 725rwhp. or My
Dodge Challenger srt8 that i have about 12,000 extra dollars in the engine.
and i bet both my cars together cost less than the single Lotus. and they
look better too!

Donovan Bulmer says:

Remember when Jeremy said, Albeit concerning hot hatches, It’s not how the
car performs, it’s how it makes you feel. The V8 in the Ford sounds better,
As does the Chevrolet LS9 V8 and the Mopar Hemi 6.4L. They make you feel
like you’re not driving, but instead rotating the earth beneath you. It’s
why Americans love Huge pigs of a vehicle. I have a Ford F-150, and i need
a full tank of gas to travel 90 miles, but i love the damn thing and i take
pride in it.

appelpower1 says:

Muscle car is a good name here. The Mustang is like a heavy-weight
muscle-packed boxer, who is utterly demolished by a ninja in the forme of
the Lotus Exige.

Strange Garage Customs and Creations says:

+zsavage1, Brits didn’t make the Veyron. Bugatti is owned by VW.

British cars are INSANELY expensive though! No doubt.

mattdidit84 says:

Hmmm…Put the VERY heavy car on all season tires against a tea cup on semi
slicks. Sounds fair.

Aces High says:

That sound is amazing at 1:02.

Eight IV says:

Love how all the Americans inmediately feel offended by this race

mah575992 says:

Haha should have been worse! I would be interested in seeing it up against
a 2015 mustang GT

appelpower1 says:

Music 3:25-4:30?

mario Babić says:

Only 33.000£ i cant believe it is that cheap considering its performance

Alfonso Penaloza says:

491 are muscle car lovers..

97jag440 says:

thats the problem with this mustang it has the 4.6 if it has the 5.0 that
came out the year after the video was made there would be no contest
because the 2011 gt held its own against the bmw m3 wiuth the 4.0 v8

Hell Fire Grunt says:

In my honest american opinion. Most Mustangs are straight line cars.

tom happy says:

149 miles only?

ChriosM says:

Sure, the Lotus destroys the Mustang here. But it costs a hell of a lot
more, and is a hell of a lot less practical in day-to-day life.

RPKVids says:

‘This is sushi vs a hamburger’ Lol!

JohnnyRocket says:

I want ford to bring the 429 back limited of course to create a new
generation of rare mustangs. Beast of a classic.

Marshall Street says:

Strange comparison. I would have compared the Lotus Exige with a Porsche
Cayman.

Jock Cockwowski says:

With American muscle usually we will kick you ass in a straight line and
then get our assess handed to us in the corners

110380michael says:

So there is a replacement for displacement.

ryan calhoun says:

You know that mustang actually did pretty good, if they really did run 2
laps, and the 300hp 3500lb mustang was less then 2 seconds behind the 300hp
lotus that weighs much less and has semi slick tires. I expected it to be
half a lap behind lol. But then again stig was driving….

thoof2001 says:

Interesting, and fitting that such a hideous wart of a car would be powered
by a Toyota engine. Like attracts like, y’know.

Tank Wolf says:

Muscle cars are meant for drag races not track tests

sub7design says:

Hennessy built the Venom from the Exige not the other way around. In fact,
the Venom’s chassis is still manufactured in the UK.

DamicoGaming says:

It’s hard to believe that the first mustang ever made only had 101hp

james Wong says:

I hate bbc top gear they have no clue about cars. just like the episode
when Hammond was testing the gt500 he put it on the dyno and said it
doesn’t make 500 hp. well no sh** the car make 400 plus to the wheels
that’s the point of the 500 at the crank. dumb ppl. they should bring back
the USA top gear at lest they knew what they was talking about

Zsavage1 says:

stupidest comparison I have ever seen .. leave it to the brits to try to
dog USA again.. they are just butthurt because we build a faster car at
less than a 3rd the cost of their over priced stuffed autos.. i.e. SSC
Ultimate Aero XT
Price: $750,000…vs Bougotti Veyron $1.8 million I mean common
Lotus weight is about 1900lbs mustang about 3800lbs… and it’s 4.7
secs 0-60 for the lotus.. this guy always exaggerates .. hated this show
from day one.. when caught them is straight out BS….. SCREW EURO
TRASH!!

John Michael says:

Rear wheel drive at the back… Ya don’t say.

PickleishBILL says:

Imagine if he compared that to the 2015 mustang.

13Sala13 says:

So the single purpose twice as expensive track car was faster than the car
with a back seat on all season tires..

Bowlofarthritus says:

This isn’t what Id call a fair race, even if it were for a mere example of
what the Lotus can do. The Mustang isn’t a great circuit car,(C’mon, using
a GT which is the bottom of the barrel V8 mustang has?), its more of a drag
car. If you wanted to make the race a little more fair to make an example
with the lotus to go aagainst A mustang, they should have brought in a
Cobra R, a mustang specifically designed FOR course racing, not drag racing

Gaffen Lebowsky says:

LOL already knew the out come of this before I even clicket on it. Why
would they do this test if they knew the American car would win?

WarPanda409 says:

The 2014 Mustang V6 makes 305 hp… What model is this one in the video? He
said it had a V8 with 305 hp

Petar Lols says:

Gotta love the Ford fans getting butthurt in the comments section :p

You Don't Need To Know My Name says:

Quicker then a Lambo. o.o

Dre Ray says:

SO they choose a stripped out racer then DESIGNED to tear up a race track
with the bare minimum, Against a car thats designed to be a stylish A-B
coupe?..To show what exactly? Yeah, Thats a good comparo, might as well put
a Maybach 62 vs a Porsche GT3 RS…or an S500 vs a Gumpert Apollo……

jediphan says:

The Mustang is an American car with an American engine, with almost 50
years of heritage. Repeat what engine a Lotus uses…. a Toyota engine?
Talking about selling out and not doing your own work. America has always
built and always will build the best vehicles ever.

Leted Zhang says:

I like the jet flyby they did at one part

givemeajackson says:

to those bringing the ford GT into the argument: the GT costs about 2 times
more the exige S… if you want a fast car and don’t care about comfort and
everyday use (which a ford gt wouldn’t give you either), nothing tops
lotus, except for caterham, but these guys are even less practical. that
has nothing to do with nationality, it’s simply that these cars were
designed to be fast on tracks, and that’s exactly what they are. also, in
terms of drag racing… 4 seconds to 60. no way the mustang could have kept
up on a quarter mile!

The True Ultimate says:

Hey did you guys know they made a Mustang game

Davis Moore says:

This is why Fifth Gear is such a better show, Tiff Needell is a former
professional racer who loves all cars and tests them fairly, Jeremy
Clarkson is a loudmouth journalist.

I have driven both of these cars, they are both equally fun and engaging.
You’re not thinking about anything but driving when you’re behind the
wheel of either of them.

Andrew Douglas says:

I love the mustangs, especially the new 302. Great muscle car.
