Lotus Elan S4 – Engine & Gearbox Removal

Lotus Elan S4 – Engine & Gearbox Removal

Video shot in early August 2021, removing the engine and gearbox from the rolling chassis of our Elan, now the body had been removed.

Although far easier than removing the engine with the body in situ, it still presents challenges, mostly as it is a very tight fit with the ZF gearbox our car has fitted!

More frequent updates and pictures, day to day goings on etc of the build can be found on our Facebook page:

Thanks as always to the good people on the LotusElan.net website & forum, the best source of Elan info I have found online:

Also sorry, camera movement makes it unwatchable. Had to give it up early.

Sorry but that was just too hard on the eyes for me to watch, all that flitting around. Headache material.

So is that a Ford Cortina engine with a lotus head? I wonder why the lotus head has a built in intake manifold? That is a little odd. What transmission is that? I've seen elans with I believe T9 transmissions? You have done some great vids. Really like the Elan.
