weak point but stronger ones are available

Joe O says:

Is the transmission the weak point of this car. Can you launch it? How do
you drive it and what gears can you accelerate in? Derek bell upgrade?
thinking about getting a Esprit V8TT

Thanks. I feel fortunate to have a car I’ve always wanted, and in great
condition, too! I intend to keep it that way.

Joe O, I’ve never had a problem with the transmission. I don’t launch it,
though. I’ll usually accelerate in 3rd and it pulls very strongly. I have
stomped on it from a slow-roll a couple of times, just to experience it,
and the thing is an absolute beast! Completely stock with the exception of
the Lotus Race ECU, giving full boost in all gears. If you have other
questions about the Esprit, try Lotus Talk and The Lotus Forums. Great
group of enthusiasts!

Lotus recommends Mobil 1 0W-40, 5W-50, or 5W-30 for the V8 (6.9 US Qrts
with filter change). I use 5W-30. Have fun with yours!

Alec Paul says:

what oil grade do you use, Ihave the same model but tempting to go with
0w-40 Mobile One ? what do you think
