Weird Electrical Problems FIXED – Lincoln Town Car

Hey folks, so in this Lincoln Town Car video I walk you through some diagnosis and replacement of the DDM – or driver door module in my 2007 Town Car Signature Limited.

The DDM which is located in the drivers door behind the interior door panel, if it fails it can cause all kinds of weird electrical gremlins. Things stop working such as the power door locks, power mirrors, power seats, keyless entry, seat memory buttons, power trunk release, interior courtesy lights illumination, etc. And, these issues may be intermittent.

I discovered some things you need to know if you have weird electrical problems and track it down to the DDM in your car. This also applies to Ford Crown Vic (Victoria) and Mercury Grand Marquis owners.

If you are having electrical gremlins in your car, it’s a good idea to first check all fuses & relays associated with the system, and then visually inspect the wires, then check for power and ground at appropriate places.

Here is a link to a helpful forum thread with talk about DDM part numbers and more, it was helpful to me in diagnosing these weird random electrical glitches:

Carlos Urena says:

Hello. Where can I order the door module for a Lincoln town car limited edition?

Keszler says:

Code for the door is in the trunk hinge arms on a sticker

lefttea says:

just a fyi, 1:38 he says "new to these" panther cars, not nudity panther cars. 🙂

Looks like a nice car. Light control modules are also very common. six & change Cdn. Under dash above your right knee. Bit smaller than a brick. I had no luck with salvage yard stuff.
LCM has 3 electro mechanical relays which fail. Good luck with it. Cold solder joints in overhead console are also a problem. Not just Fords – everything. I resoldered them.

Todd Ector says:

I would have to check my manuals but I believe the 06 and 07 should similar but the 08+ cars wouldn't be as they have the TPMS circuitry.

If the 06 had memory seats then it should have worked but might required reprogramming to fully function. Forscan can do much of those details including finding the drivers door code for you.

You could have downloaded the factory programming for your particular car by VIN and programmed it using Forscan using that as built data.

Anyone having questions feel free to contact me with any Panther platform questions such disabling air suspension errors on converted cars, turning off the TPMS on 08+ cars…

I live in rural Saskatchewan if anyone was wanting to know.

This guy is better than most mechanics I know.

Rob P. says:

My only question is where do you find this much time to troubleshoot ? Do you have a job? Retired? Rich?

Rugged Rick Rude says:

TY very good clear explaning this

Paul Mark says:

Great diagnostic and repair video. Thanks.

Mr. Cartier says:

Hello sir, I have a 2000 lincoln towncar Cartier everything in my car works that the DDM controls. Windows, locks, mirrors, keyless entry keypad, seats, etc. Except my both keyfobs don't work I replaced battery's to a original backup I had put away and a aftermarket one still nothing. So I figured my DDM that controls the keyfobs is faulty. Now my local salvage doesn't have any 98-02 models towncars so I'm leaning towards a 2001 mercury grand marquis ls ddm. Would you think that would work so far my research has led me to believe it will. Thoughts???

Dom Fer says:

Look for the code on truck hinge

The Continental Tech says:

Very good evaluation. Great information. Thank you.

Ron S says:

I had the same problem on my 2007. The dealer replaced that module and one other — total cost about $1200. They still made the modules then. I found a place online that will rebuild them and I'm thinking of having my old ones done. You reminded me of that. Thanks for your efforts. One other thing is this happened when my battery was at the end of its life — maybe the low battery caused the trouble?

Reginald Winkler says:

The door code is on the hinge of the trunk

Isaac Simmons says:

I have a 1999 TC that the seat don't move, rear windows don't work, trunk is temperamental, and AC needs replacement. I'm wondering if it pays to invest the money to fix those or just drive it till it dies.

Jason Boisclair says:

Create video mine is acting up to but my lights stay on on the inside and says door jar to everybody says it's a sensor on the door latch itself on the driver's side is there any way you can make a video on how to replace that as a 2003 Lincoln town car signature great video it did help me a lot on how to take the door panel off and that Box that Box that you replace I'm probably have to replace it too Does I have to be programmed

Danny Lewandowski says:

Awesome walkthrough for the door panel! Thanks so much. Just got a 07 towncar limited signature and I just the love car. It has a problem where the seat doesn’t move forwards and backwards, and sometimes when I let the car sit overnight the drivers seat will move all the way forwards. Hoping it’s not this and just a power sweat switch.

Pantera P7B says:

I have a friend with a 2003 Lincoln Town Car who is looking for this exact replacement part. In the drop down menu there's no listing for DDM or DCM. What term did you use when searching?

Jason Tackett says:

Would you happen to have the signature module laying around still and be willing to sell it? MY grandmothers car is doing the exact same thing…I hooked up my scan tool and it has very low voltage…8.6 when running and 7.4 with the key off. When the key is off its not enough to power the module and its completely dead.
