I love watching craftsman from other countries work (I’m American). They
have a very different way of working and creating. Us Americans are always
looking for shortcuts, how fast, how cheap, or easy things can get done.
These guys work slower and more precise. They care about every detail. They
take the time to make wood plugs instead of slapping some wood filler on
and calling it good. They care about the beauty, not just the
functionality. They also look like they actually enjoy the art of creating
it, it’s not just a job. I love that.
I am interested in knowing why screw the floorboards directly into the
trailer frame. It seems one could have screwed some plywood into the frame
and then could have nailed the hardwood flooring into the plywood.
You would have been able to hide the nails as opposed to doing plugs for
the screws.
After looking at some different options for our flooring, we have chosen a
vinyl product (laid onto a plywood subfloor). A significant consideration
was the durability to start with (we will have pets coming in and out) and
the ability to replace either a portion or the whole thing, should it ever
get damaged. Since your floor is an integral part of the structure, have
you thought about what your options are if parts of it were ever to get
damaged?

If you were to have wanted to stain the floorboards, would you need to oil
it as well? If so, in what order would you apply the stain and oils?

strong vapors coming off the oil and the turps?
Be careful with the drill, although goggles can be a pain, it’s good to be
a safe kiwi.

hahahaha, so on the ACC form you would put RPI (repetitive Plug Injury).
That would then preclude you from making another claim for your next small
house project as ACC would say “Pre-existing condition.

Just one question, Why not use a caulking gun with a bit of wood coloured
filler or even your sawdust mixed with some glue?
I am starting with an old caravan and hoping to use second hand timber due
to budget constraints. I can see that finding that bit of extra cash to use
sound new materials is a big bonus. THX for the straight forward practical
advise. Good stuff !!
