you don’t weld cast iron you get it cold stitched
Those rods are 930$ for 10 pounds
an alternative to a rodcooker is to take an old cabinet and put a 100watt
lightbulb inside , the lightbulb warms it up so the weldingrods dry out
verry old trick from the time they didnt had mig and tig yet
redneck work environment for sure.
this is what i love most in youtube,,watching you guys share all those tips
which will take me years ( and a lot of money in wasted materials) to get
it right..more power to you guys.
Eso no es un taller, es una pocilga. No se puede acumular mas objetos
inflamables cerga de una fuente de calor. jajajaja
Looks like it froze at one time.
That power supply is pretty angry.
Interesting!!
nice welding there,but welding 2 feet from a PROPANE tank?nice work….the
next time call fire dpt to wait for the explosion……
good job-
use 6013 rod and when it cracls while welding the first pass quickly weld
it over again and you will be good
bat phone tom 289
Nice job. I always just heat with torch then cool in sand if piece is small
enough
I think you guys over did it. You had that piece heating for a very very
long time. Isn’t the heat to prevent shock. I say this because the slag
isn’t coming off o.0 I’m sure the weld is fine, good idea to use the
barbeque. Anyways good job.
How you vent your shop?
Good job!
Y’all did a great job.
med well please
This had to be the most unsafe working area I have ever seen for welding.
Rags, paper, propane cylinders, and god knows what else. An accident
waiting to happen. You got the job done, but keep working in this
environment and bad things will happen.
did the same a wile ago. but tigged it.
Pretty cluttered shop eh?
I got an electric furnace and set it on 2000 f. and then open top and reach
down in with oxygen-rich acetylene and clean it and then use uncoated cast
iron rod. You puddle it and circle just like steel. Then close it up and
program it to cool to room temp in 40 hours. It’s too much trouble but the
stuff I weld is absolutely irreplaceable.
cracks
you’re ultraviolet rays destroyed my monitorr …ha
Centerium lol great
MCSCIENCE,YOU are right ,if the piece hasn’t warped out of spec, that my
friend rarely happens, you heat the piece to keep the part at same
temp, temperature shock, means defect, seems every part I ever had to weld or
repair by welding required touchup, even if it was just a file LOL,patience
is the key
what was the rod size and voltage setting?
you have to use the certanium, and this guy did it perfect,no matter
what,no matter how good you do it,if it is a piece that has to hold water
or chemical you have to machine it flat, one more little tidbit, after
welding let it come back to same temp as heater, then throw it in lime, till
it goes to ambient temp-70-100 not cold,if you are in a hurry let somene
else do it,this is not a job for a hurry up harold, patience is the key
Great video. Thanks for teaching me something I didn’t know.
@805ROADKING…. That is my dream bike!!! A Road King Classic!!!! Anyway,
thanks for posting! I was surprised to read that you only used 65 amps! I
thought 90-100 would be needed, but then again I don’t weld cast! Great job!
Thank you for your movie. I am very interested in welding cast iron. Is it
same result if I try using MIG welding?
I have an exhaust manifold that someone thought the same thing. The mig
weld is cracked all the way around the runner!
That was DC!! Sometime you have to reverse polarity depending on the rod!!☺
All that cleaning… all that prep work… then that weld 🙁 I died a
little inside. Good job overall though ; )
@motocross03087 Thanks Buddy!! I appreciate you checkin’ it out!!☺
That’s a Big Bead for sure.. Good Luck with it.. Always Good to know Good
people on here.. Thanks for Sharing..
thats cool man
That sounds like a good system!! It’s amazing what you can do with a die
grinder and a 4 inch angle grinder eh!!☺
ottimo lavoro
that’s wild that you stick welded that. great technique about the preheat
and cooling. I’m going to have to remember this if I get a chance to use my
powerarc welder this way. thanks for the vid.
Don’t know!! he must have bailed YT!! 500’s still around though!!☺
So glad you removed the gas bottle from the barbie q.lol.when you was
welding.o wait.did i see it still on.o fuck.boooooom
