I have a 1994 Lincoln Towncar. And it makes that same noise. IAC Valve.

James Robert says:

Come to think of it, since its really hot and humid out when this happens
it could also be the AC system… Try turning the HVAC system off and then
trying to make the noise. If it no longer makes the noise then you have
narrowed it down to that system.. Just do the same things i said before.

MechanicDan1 says:

Yup, mine had the exact same problem. I replaced the IAC and the issue went
away immediately

MechanicDan1 says:

thanks man! got some things to look for now

MechanicDan1 says:

thanks! that would make sense why its stallin when i turn the wheel while
reversing, would this also cause it to stall while sittin at or slowin down
at a stop light or stop sign?

James Robert says:

It sounds like one of the washers/grommets for the hoses which has come
loose inside the power steering system. The reason it makes sounds when its
hot/humid is because the rubber expands more then metal when it gets hot
and perhaps the grommet made its way inside the power steering line a bit
which could be partially blocking the power steering flow. It would make
noise and make the car stall… Check your power steering color and if its
black then chances are that this is the case.

Michael Laing says:

Did this get resolved by replacing the IAC? My 2000 TC is making the same
noise, and it will also occasionally stall when slowing town to make turns.
thanks!

sounds like a bad iac motor…….i had an explorer do that one time with
the humming and it drove me nuts trying to find it. get a new iac from the
ford dealer…..aftermarket ones are not very good

joe27077 says:

Yup its the idler control valve (IAC)

James Robert says:

Usually it would cause a squeeky belt, but if its clogging enough then the
iac valve wont be able to maintain the massive rpm drop. If you get under
the car and get someone to rev the engine to force the car to make the
noise then you can feel the different hoses and the pump to try to locate
the noise/vibration. It takes getting a feel for but its pretty easy to
figure out whats making the noise. The best thing to do is get a mechanics
stethoscope from harbor frieght and use that.

MechanicDan1 says:

i know its not the AC, i dont use it hardly ever unless someone is
complainin that its too hot for the windows to be down, so its definitly
not that. i actually lost power steering at one point today when it was
making the noise and the car bogged way down and almost stalled when i was
in the harbor freight parkin lot, i havent checked the fluid yet though,
gonna do that when the sun goes down so its not so hot out

James Robert says:

Harbor freight has two different stethoscopes, one for 3.99 and a digital
one for 29.99… It would make the job 10x easier to be honest.
