Purolator makes the Motorcraft filters and Champion Labs makes the STP. I
use Motorcraft on any Ford product I may own at the time, but everything
else gets WIX(from O’reilly auto)

weasel2htm says:

@WhoSaidTyler I usually get AC delco filters, but I may get something else
next time I change my oil after reading that..

retrochad says:

@batterymaker Thanks! I have read the Chilton’s and Haynes manuals for
these cars, but mostly I have just learned through experience. I think the
more things overall I repair, including cars, engines, electronic devices
and musical instruments, it seems to increase my overall intuition for
finding problems.

backwoods3214 says:

i don’t trust motor craft fitters. thin caseing that splits, and hard
gaskets that don’t seal well. if they fixed this isue id use that brand
again

WhoSaidTyler says:

My, Chad you have really went to town on the Lincoln repairs…good job! I
strongly recommend buying a factory service manual from ebay because they
present much more in-depth testing procedures and repair steps. They
usually are pretty reasonable. The STP filter is a Champion Labs, same with
Bosch, Deutsch and now AC-Delco unfortunately. Rather cheap construction.
Motorcraft is made by Purolator. I would use those or WIX exclusively.

suburbanator91 says:

AC-Delco, Motor Craft, Fram, Wix, Purolator, & STP oil filters are made by
the same parent company, Honeywell International.

If you want to make some extra money, you could start your own livery
service with this car. 🙂 I still see these old Town Cars servings as
taxis and airport limos.

batterymaker says:

Where did you learn all this anyway? You amaze me. Sheesh, now I’m
beginning to sound like a rabid fanboy…. 🙂

weasel2htm says:

@retrochad I can tell from watching your videos working on electronics that
you seem to get that as well.

retrochad says:

@pcwalker We don’t have emissions testing but they do do a visual
inspection that all the emissions components are present and hooked up,
including the smog pump and factory air cleaner/intake components. They
wouldn’t allow an Edelbrock aftermarket air cleaner on my 1978 Grand
Marquis, had to be the factory unit.

lawnside82 says:

@batterymaker i know how you feel, i learn something new in every video!!

Jake Da Snake Productions says:

you ulta take a hose some degreaser to that engine bay.

The Carter Hour says:

I use Mobil 1 with Mobil 1 Synthetic and Lucas Synthetic Stabilizer in my
2003 Grand Marquis. I used to use motorcraft, but is actually made by FRAM.

Robert DeMaio says:

Gunk off and a hose would make the job more pleasant

BassmasterBling says:

I would hit that engine compartment with a pressure washer. It would make
it look 100% better!

weasel2htm says:

@retrochad Well said! That applies to me working computers, work on them
enough, you kinda get a “sixth sense” to what is going on.

tasmith1969 says:

You may check the A/C vacuum system under the hood, might be a leaky hose
or a rusted out reservoir. The reservoir looks like a coffee can with vac
hose(s) connected.

oc5nsli341nforce4 says:

Well its Texas I have even used the A/C in December so its only good three
seasons out of the year. Must be worse over ware you are when it comes to
the summer heat than in the toilet that is Waco.
