had to end up borrowing an air ratchet, that is the only way it would come
off.
No it is a metal valve very similar to the one in this video. I also picked
up the new valve to replace from an auto shop, and it is metal with what
looks like red loctite already on the threads. Thank you.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but your 2002 Highlander with a 1MZ-FE engine uses
a plastic PCV valve that you yank straight out, without unscrewing. Check
out my video on valve cover gasket replacement to see how I did it on my
car.
great video! 02 highlander here. my pcv valve is really stuck in there! i
tried some liquid wrench, still no luck. i’m using the same 19mm wrench
that you are and even tried a breaker bar. Any suggestions? Thanks.
You can probably remove the intake and change the plugs in 2-3 hours. A
proper throttle body cleaning involves unbolt it from the intake plenum to
clean the back side of the throttle plate with TB cleaner and a tooth
brush. You’ll need a new TB gasket for re-installation.
You can try spraying some penetrating oil on it, and limit the extension
size on your socket so it doesn’t slip. Use a breaker bar or a pipe over
the ratchet handle for a bit more leverage. Jerk the bolt loose rather than
apply full continuous force, kinda like an impacting action to break the
bolt loose. And don’t back out the rear plenum bracket bolts all the way so
that there isn’t any pressure on the 4 Allen bolts.

Hi , Speedkar99 …. thanks for a useful video , I also have a 2004 Toyota
sienna and i got some things want to ask and hopefully you can help . My
Sienna has ticking noise when it starts in the morning , it’s last about 1
second then gone (Oh, I just bought it about a month ) and it’s still in
summer , I don’t know if it got worse in the winter when the temperature
might drop 10 (F) degree below zero ( I live in Minnesota) . Do you know
how to fix it ?…..and its idle is a little rough ….

Wow, what a pain. i have a 1993 v6 lexus es 300 and was able to change the
rear plugs only having to loosen the engine lifting bracket.
You are right, I had to remove the whole wiper assembly. It would have been
impossible otherwise. It was fairly straight forward. I had to run the
wiper just a bit to have access to one or two of the screws/bolts. I kept
the electrical connection of the wiper intact though; just moved it out of
the way. Caution: There are two cylindrical washers from the 10mm bolt, but
in the plenum that could come off Too much tape actually pulled one of them
out, but did not drop, I was lucky…Thanks!

tighter working behind the engine with the wiper assembly above the motor?
Did you have to remove the wiper motors too? We also have an 06 Sienna
that’s due for spark plug replacement next year.

how much to expect from a (competent!) mechanic.
Thanks for the feedback! Anti-seize and Di-electric grease are two
controversial subjects when changing spark plugs.
great video brother..you are a born teacher…one thing I would like to add
if I may…per NGK which is the OEM manufacturer of spark plugs for this
and many vehicles advise not using anti seize on plugs for several reasons
per several tech bulletins…..many other plug manufacturers concur

Just one little comment. The intake plenum is pronounced as “PLE-NUM”, not
“PLE-NIUM”. Otherwise, this is a very helpful DIY guide.
it’s amazing how dirty the engine compartment gets after less than a
decade! I’m always shocked when I pop open the hood of my 98 civic :O
ah well I imagine things get stained from normal wear and tear.anyway great
