This is The MOST Expensive Lexus Model to Repair and Own! Be Aware!

The Lexus LS460 is one of the Most expensive Lexus models to repair and own! I always mentioned that you should be careful with LS460s as they can get very expensive to repair.

Today we take a look at a beautiful 2011 Lexus LS460 with only 70k miles that is in the shop for a lot of expensive repairs and in what I call the LS460 Pile up when repairs turn into more repairs. And at the same time we have a much older LS430 with double the miles and half the issues.

He’s right, my 1998 LS I only had to change the control arms once and I put over 300 thousand miles on it. My 2008 LS460 has 269 thousand miles and I’m about to order those lower control arms for a third time because they are shot and that’s a job I hate to do on the LS460. I’ll replace my wheel hubs the same time.

@kevincamilleri1695 says:

The 460 is a nightmare because who other then amd would do a correct job?

@vinmarz says:

My 2006 Nissan Xterra had a similar design flaw that was fatal. Coolant would leak into the transmission and kills the engine

@ginog5037 says:

Lexus and Toyota are overrated. Just like today's overpriced and over engineered German junk…

@cedricjackson7521 says:

If the Lexus LS 460 caused this much money to maintain, you might as well buy a Maserati or an S class Mercedes.

@chopsocky5925 says:

Lexus gave these cars a very German design especially when you factor in the suspension components.

@texan176 says:

The LS430 has the DNA of the original UZ engine in the first LS ever where they spent $500 million + to develop the engine and achieved a product that was certified for use in aircraft. The engineers did not cut corners and perfected thing using technology such as fuel injection that had been around for decades. When they got to the LS460 they needed to change with the times but it meant use of relatively new technology such as with a high pressure fuel system. They did not have adequate time to study and perfect things. The brand was also not as worried about building a solid reputation in 2007 as it was in 1990. In the early days the only flaws the UZ engine had was mounting the starter under the intake manifold and placing the alternator under the power steering pump.

@scottishmanguy says:

I’m not sure if this is common in all LS 460s but I own a 2008 LS 460 with 185,000 miles and I have had no real issues. I change my oil every 4000 miles everything’s original except for a brakes and other normal maintenance. The vehicle before I bought it was a company car and the oil changes were at the proper intervals but I have heard nightmares about these vehicles but I don’t think it’s systemic.

@russellhammond4373 says:

Great video. I've never owned an LS 460 and probably never will.

@sabiralizada8175 says:

Hello Ahmad, just for my info, please: is it same engine 1GR-FE installed on GX460? if yes, then is the routing of the pipe is same on GX? Does it leak there too?

@dhno100 says:

Planned obsolescence

@805NAVE says:

Does all this apply to the GS460? I believe same motor?

@dawkrb says:

The infamous valley plate leak! had to do it on my IS-F. Toyota needs to do better!

@805NAVE says:

I have to admit I love the LS460. My mom has one and it now has 200,000+ miles on it, and it’s a wonderful machine. It has had some issues however. Burns oil, CEL comes in intermittently, and has the sticky dash issue if left in the sun. Other than that it has been wonderful.

However I have a 2005 ES330 with 332,000 miles and has been perfect mechanically!

I also used to have a GS430 w/ 240,000 miles, I miss it!! Should not have sold it.

@carloshernandezjr.8475 says:

Congratulations on reaching 1 million subscribers, you are one of the most honest mechanics on YouTube, keep up the great work.

@BeanDip125 says:

They took notes from Mercedes on how to make mechanics mad

@karamjitsindhu says:

Can someone confirm if its the same issues with the ls600 model, same shape?

@user-lu9ry7zm6p says:

I would love to find mx83 cressida. I love them especially leather grande

@gabrielshensky348 says:

Ive found great control arm replacement sets for less than half of oem prices on these cars, and ebay motors will tend to sell air struts for cheap as well. Both of those jobs are quite easy to complete, with the valley plate being the one difficult problem. If you can turn a wrench, and you can find a 460/600h for a good price, I dont see a reason not to go in

@thetruth7633 says:

LS460 maintenance and parts costs are extreme, I once saw Swiss owner cost of maintenance overview and he said is was more expensive to drive than his 911.Would never buy 8 cylinder cars, they sound great but besides fuel consumption there always seems to be problems, any brand. Better drive Camry V6 from 2002 with 300K on the clock or Honda with R20 or K20 engine.
