MBCluster – Lexus Instrument Cluster Needle and Backlight LED Upgrade

Lexus places LEDs inside the needles themselves, to provide illumination. A little different than the German approach, as Mercedes uses plexiglass to refract…

@ 12:40, do you directly insert the cluster needle back into the center
motor? did you have to use any special tools? can i just pull them off w/o
any damage? thanks.

Dan Nguyen says:

Hey MBCluster,

I found some Warm White PLCC-2 3528 1210 LED SMD Bulb Lamps for sale on
Ebay. do you think this will work?

MBCluster says:

They are pretty bright! Look up PLCC-2 or 2010 SMD…

MBCluster says:

You are right, you need to see what the correct needle reading is before
you disassemble. Another idea is to mark on the board the needle position.
I did both and with trial and error got them positioned like they were
before. The best idea is to have artificial stimulous to precisely
calibrate the needles. If there was more demand, Id look into it.

Great video, thanks! May I ask where you found the LED bulbs for the panel
backlighting and the part number? They look way better than the
incandescents.

Nomado Alvarez says:

thanks for the video. I did this work on my sc300 cluster. i just installed
one led in the tip of each gauge and fill up the the small gap with a
little right stuff gasket maker. it happens that everything is off spec
right now. Any of the needles are showing the right readings. I try to
balance then and they are pretty much reading right. i saw that once your
car on the rpm wasn’t reading right either. Any ideas i will appreciated.

MBCluster says:

Yes, the motors in the gauges are known to go bad, as you can tell. The
fuel gauge is the most susceptible to failure statistically. The only thing
you can do is replace it with another used motor. Unfortunately you will
need to get a doner set for that. I dont know of any way to check with an
ohmmeter, as failures can be slight twitchiness, or all-out like you are
experiencing. For me, I power it up, inject stimuluous repeatedly, and see
if it reacts correctly. Email me at info at mbcluster.

Cause i tried the local market but could not find it

Jeet Devgun says:

Hey bro i need ur help. I have a w210 e250 I updated the clustre lights to
led And when i put back the cluster the fuel indicator was not working
properly. I thought i might have damaged it so i opened it up and removed
the motor that runs it. After that i opened the motor the coil of the motor
had a broken connection from the pole i tried to solder it but it broke and
i lost the wire under the coil somewhere. Plz tell me can i find another
motor for it somewhere over the net

Jeet Devgun says:

Also if i find a new motor is there a way i can check if the rest of the
system is working properly without getting the motor damaged again. I have
a multimeter would it help
