How to Replace A Water Pump on a Lexus IS250

Video demonstrating how to replace the water pump assembly on a Lexus IS 250 series vehicle. This procedure is the same whether or not the car is front (FWD) or (AWD). The car being worked on has approximately 120,000kms and I was a little surprised that it needed a water pump so soon as there was a considerable amount of coolant leaking from the weep holes.

When replacing the water pump always use genuine toyota pre mixed pink or if you still have new old stock toyota red coolant mixed with deionized or distilled water.

Just got done with spark plugs change on my 2009 IS250 AWD. The water pump is next. Waiting for my order from Amazon. I will definitely be watching your video as I do them. So thank you in advanced for the video tutorial. You just save me $800. With spark plugs, serpentine belt, and this water pump. You and other Youtubers + Amazon parts just save me easily over $1000.

Two question.
1. How many gallons of Toyota lifelong coolant fluid did you use?
2. Would you recommend replacing the thermostat as well?

Straight up one of the best vids i have seen. you should get a job at Hollywood for video production lol what r you doing turning wrenches. loved the extra tips. Good job. Were you a Toyota service tech at one point?

Danny Medina says:

SacreDro says:

What's that ticking sound?

snippits75 says:

Very nice video! You did a great job even without a camera man. Nice tip about putting the old bolts on the new pump and vice versa. Kind of like I have done with push rods before in cardboard box to remember where they go.

I have a 2006 IS350. This is the first video that I watched of yours, but I will watch them all!

Are you a mechanic by trade, or just a DIY guy like me?

Ricky Her says:

where can I purchase the idler pulley and tensioner pulley and are they the same pulley with different bolts?

Rob Mentzer says:

Awesome vid. I have a 350 but still an identical setup. Gonna tear into it today once the parts arrive. Thanks for posting it up.

Jennifer Castillo says:

How come it still makes noise after you turned on the engine?

IamAnoobiecheez says:

Question, does water pump HAVE TO leak in order to be called failed pump? What if the bearing in the water pump goes bad and make rattle noise? Does the water pump need to be changed out? What will happen if the bearing completely fails?

Intelligent, straightforward and complete but appropriately concise instruction, with useful commentary. I watched this once then with the necessary tools and parts at the ready, I replaced my water pump in 38 minutes. It took almost that long to refill the radiator, check for leaks, (there were none), clean up, and put away my tools and every thing I used. Just like being back in High School Auto Mechanics class but with a better view and without all of repeat student questions and horsing around. I also replaced the S belt and the thermostat. I bought my parts from 3 different auto parts suppliers on eBay and the coolant from a local superstore for a total cost of $116.00 ! The quote from the dealer was $798.00

Recaldo Gilpin says:

did my water pump today, after doing it I heard a loud squeaking noice, what do you think is the problem?

Juan Martinez says:

does the hose going to the right from the radiator overflow tank is it suppose to be connected to anything? my cars was disconnected and dont seem to find where to connect it to

Sam Dabare says:

This is one of the best videos. Provides very detail instructions. Helpful hints. I have been working on cars for long times, this video shared some great tips. Very well done.

Eric Hernandez says:

Awesome video I was able to replace my water pump on my '08. Bad thing was that after I put everything back together and I went to add the coolant the cap broke and everything fell inside the water intake. Now I have to hopefully fish everything out or buy a new intake sighs

Pauly Nokes says:

thank you so bro. Your video was a enormous help and I wanted to thank you oh so much bro…. your the tops..

Robert Bales says:

Awesome video! I kind of skimmed through some of it so I'm not sure if you went over this but do you know what kind of coolant this vehicle takes?

Josh Carrera says:

i know this is old but would the process be the same for an 09 is250 RWD

Donna Le says:

Did you apply loctite on all 16 bolts on the water pump?
Did you drain out the coolant fluid?

Texas Cowboy says:

What's the average cost to have the water pump replaced at a repair shop? I have a 2007 IS250 and the Lexus dealership wants $1200 to replace the water pump. Your tutorial has enough information to help me change the water pump myself but unfortunately I'm extremely busy at work and I don't have time. Great video. Thanks.
