How to Replace a Frozen Screen on a Lexus IS (2006-2013 Models)

About a year ago, the navigation display on my 2007 Lexus IS350 ceased to work. The touchscreen was completely dead, it wouldn’t respond to any touch. And so I did some research on the net, and found out that my digitizer may be the culprit. Instead of paying $3k+labor costs for the ENTIRE unit or $300 for an entire display panel, I opted to just buy a digitizer for $50 instead. Be sure to buy it from a reputable seller from within the US as I’ve read stories of digitizers that have yellowing effect and strange glaring.

In this video, I will show you how to replace this digitizer and get your display unit to function again. To remove the unit from your car’s dash, you’ll need a plastic prying tool and a 10mm socket wrench with an extender. All in all, it took me about 4 hours to get this done because I was being very cautious. But I think if I had to do it again, I can get it down within 2 hours.

I watched your video on how to replace the digitizer but now my screen is white do you have any clue as to what I can do to fix this issue

How's it going. I'm planning on repairing my screen this weekend. I have the new digitizer and double side tape. Question though, where did you put the tape for the new screen?? On the edges? On the screen? Your video doesn't show that part. Can you please help. Thanks.

Did you have to fix it again after this? Also where did you buy the digitizer?

Doggy Style says:

Dude that's an awesome DIY i must say. But you took off too many unnecessary parts. All you had to do was remove the front panel/face (4 screws each side) then remove the 4 screws holding the screen, disconnect the ribbon and wire. and no prying of the digitizer should be involved. Just use a sharp blade to run between the screen and digitizer to cut the two sided tape holding them after using the heat gun. that's it.

You skipped the most important part which is prying the old digitizer out & gluing the new one in! This is where your video becomes useful & most incidents happen with glue spilling out or over heating cracks the digitizer! This video shows only dismantling of the unit & the magic afterwards, not the actual repair as the title claims I'm afraid.

Have a few questions if you can respond…How is the new digitizer holding up since installation? Can you say where it was purchased or provide a link? There are a lot of them available but not sure of there reliability or quality. I also wanted to know if a heat gun would be too hot to use instead of hair dryer, and lastly I thought i may try using fishing line to remove the old digitizer once i got a razor under a corner. Oh yea one more…did you coat the entire screen with doublesided tape or just sparingly? Thanks again!
