Hi all, have you ever poked your head under your vehicle and thought – how am I going to protect that. Real offroad vehicles need real protection and one of the ways to protect your Discovery 3 / 4 is to fit an APT Offroad air compressor guard. The APT Off Road Land Rover Discovery 3 / 4 air compressor guard not only fully covers the air compressor to provide real protection but it’s also designed to allow maximum air flow across the air compressor to prevent over heating whilst still maintain that total coverage protection.
New premium quality fixings are supplied in the kit so all you need are a couple of basic hand tools and you’re on your way.
What do you get:
• laser cut precision folded 4mm Tru Spec steel compressor guard, zinc primed and powder coated satin black
• 2 – 8mm high tensile 12.9 rated zinc plated button head bolts and zinc washers
• 1 – 8mm zinc plated custom hook and cone lock nut with zinc washers
The APT Discovery 3 / 4 air compressor guard uses existing mounting points. It can be mounted both with or without Rock sliders. A 5mm allen key and 13mm socket or spanner are all that’s needed so let’s get into it. Topping the scales at 6kg, it’s a very user friendly guard to fit in your driveway at home. Identify the 2 threads on the side and remove the plastic plug retainers if you don’t have sliders or remove the 2 8mm bolts if you do have sliders. Raise the air compressor guard into place and start the 2 – 8mm bolts with washers loosely. With these in place, we’re heading under the vehicle. The muffler heat shield has a locating tab that uses an existing hole in the chassis, we’re going to use the same hole. Slip the hook in behind or over the top of the heat shield into the hole in the chassis. Offer the air compressor guard into its fitted position making sure the location pin finds its spot in the chassis and the hook bolt goes through its hole also. Now slip on the washers and start the conelock nut. This nut will be tight but it’s the best heat proof option for the job. With all fasteners started, it’s time to begin the tightening. Start with the 2 – 8mm bolts first, nip them both up until flush and then tighten them fully. Tight so that nothing moves but not to the point of rounding out the bolt head. To get the hook bolt started, hold it in place while doing up the cone lock until the bolt can support itself. As the vehicle has a ladder chassis and monocoque body, we only need to do the hook bolt up until the compressor guard is just firmly touching the chassis. This allows the required movement between the chassis and body. A quick double check. 2 – 8mm bolts in the sill, nice and tight. Locating pin sitting in the hole in the chassis. Hook bolt, tightened up so the guard is just firm against the chassis.
That’s it! 3 bolts and one of the most vulnerable under body vehicle components is fully covered with Rock solid protection with an easy install in your driveway at home. I’m Ben from APT Off Road, if you have any questions, email me or call me. Thanks for your time, I look forward to seeing you out on the tracks.
