In this video we show you how to remove and install a high pressure pump on a Land Rover Freelander TD4 2 L diesel engine

It is a straightforward job you do need a couple of specialist tools which you can buy very inexpensively it’s like everything just take your time take pictures make sure you have the engine locked and marked with tippex just in case and you cannot go wrong
An Injection Pump is the device that pumps diesel (as the fuel) into the cylinders of a diesel engine. Traditionally, the injection pump is driven indirectly from the crankshaft by gears, chains or a toothed belt (often the timing belt) that also drives the camshaft. It rotates at half crankshaft speed in a conventional four-stroke diesel engine. Its timing is such that the fuel is injected only very slightly before top dead centre of that cylinder’s compression stroke. It is also common for the pump belt on gasoline engines to be driven directly from the camshaft. In some systems injection pressures can be as high as 220 bar (3190PSI).

If you a DIYer and a freelander owner you going build quite a collection of tools keeping this junk running lol .

Mason says:

Hi mate quick question: which is the fuel return line and which is the feed? Thanks

Russell Mcallister says:

Leon, whats your take on the timing of these. I'm researching the issue with transit 2.4 mk7

Sebastián says:

Will there be a fault code if the pressure is slightly to less to start the engine for a few seconds?

mano lo says:

Hi, do you know where the coolant temperature sensor is located, I can't find it. Thank you.

Miguel Alfredo Núñez says:

Very good video. I am repairing my land rover freelander, but I need to know about the special tool to pull the high pressure pump. As it is called? How can I get it? Can you buy online? I am in Honduras, Central America.

Thanks.

hazlotusolito says:

Hello, your video helped me a lot, but you managed to get the pump out, but when I tightened the pump nut, it turned a bit and now I think I have to synchronize the chain. You can help me. I appreciate it, thank you very much.

Roydon Henning says:

Absolutely Awesome way you Changed Injection Pump on the TD4 Engine I just need to get the Magic Tool

steve miller says:

Jaroslav Maksimiuk says:

Muhammad Yusof Bin Razali says:

torque loads for 21mm nuts size pls..

Jonathan Hull says:

When you put the pump back in do you remove the special tool first or just the bit that pushes the pump out

Hello I`m, trying to change fuel pump on my fatherts td4 automatic, I am on step when have to lock engine, but notice that flyweel plate is different. I have 4 holes, three holes are one to one, the other two are spaced apart around the plate. Which one to use for locking the engine?

simon phelps says:

What was the fault code please?
I’m having a nightmare with my Landy fault code P1190 so I’m wondering can it be the HP pump I’ve done everything else lol

Rogojan Ghent Bujor Daniel says:

Mr. Thomas, it seems simple to change the fuel pump and you're done. I would like to ask you to tell me the name of the two parts with which you take out the pump and where I can buy them. I have a 75 rover with the same type of engine. thank you.

Christopher Ventura says:

Great informative video. I thought 'bollocks' when my hippo's fuel pump went this morning. Now that I've watched your video a couple of times I am going to order the special tool and have a crack at it. Cheers.

Hi great video as usual.. have you done a video to replace injection pump on Vauxhall vivaro as I would like to replace mine on my 2004 1.9 dti it's time she had a new or reconditioned one along with the injectors and glow plugs.. would appreciate any advice on does and don'ts and any special tools I will need. Thanks Shaun.

Andy Ax says:

Just got my pump swapped over by watching your video! Starter motor is a pig, especially as there is another bolt right next to the starter motor bolt at the top (15mm) and my hidden starter bolt was a 13mm :/ Main problem I'm having is that I can't now line up the engine mount properly – it's about 50mm out. Engine seems to have moved on the jack while I was swapping the pump out so having to try and pry it back into place to refit. Hopefully, once that's done, rest will be pretty straight forward. Would never have attempted doing this without the video – thanks.

Bunty Kainth says:

Damn mate what a job well done

Robert Cochrane says:

great video if your going to do this I'm not well not at the moment but will remember everything because you explained everything so clearly the bits i would need to looking at a manual am i right in thinking these HFP are not timed but its just good practice to lock the engine

nw8000 says:

I believe you can recon the pump yourself
