According to my workshop manual, the inner and outer brake pads are different. You need to make sure you install them on their correct side of the disc/rotor.

When winding back the piston do you have to be careful the brake fluid doesn't overflow?

tightening bolts with an air ratchet is very bad practise. always use a torque wrench with the correct setting. also when changing brake pads on a freelander, always replace the guide pins and rubbers.
