DISCOVERY 3 / LR3: Sunroof drain tube: Cost-free fix to solve wet footwell. Land Rover Discovery LR3

Fixing the leaking sunroof drain pipe on the sunroof (causing a wet footwell) of a 2005 Land Rover Discovery 3 / LR3. There are four sunroof drains running away from each corner of the sunroof, this video covers the repair to the driver’s side (offside) front tube. It was perished and causing water to drain into the driver’s footwell and sills. I managed to repair this side without buying any replacement parts, using only basic tools.

Labour took about two hours, new replacement parts would have been about £17.50.

DIY TOTAL SAVING (as opposed to paying labour and materials) – about £177.50

How do you get to the outlet on a right hand drive vehicle when it’s the near side passenger foot well that’s wet ?

Jamie Scrimgeour says:

Very helpful video but can't find the video you said you would do on the passenger side. Did you do one? I have the problem on the passenger side only so very keen to learn how to fix it. Thank you.

Hi

Please help

KLAUS MAARTENS says:

thanks! I had the same problem with my old '09 RR HSE Sport and my mechanic solved the problem and he told me what you just stated in this post. Now, I drive a 2014 Disco 4 HSE Lux. I moved to Florida 12 days ago and we had had torrential rain for the whole day. The same problem as before, so I will try using a weed whacker filament which is strong to push any obstruction and flexible to navigate the curves in the draining hose. I vacuumed about 500 cc of water from the passenger compartment (US version)

Amos Dunham says:

Is the exit location on both sides the same?

Harvey Manfrantinsingin says:

By chance, Did this cause any of your dash lights to illuminate? Transmission fault and so on?

Robert A says:

But what about other side where there is no grill in a wing…? How do you access that grommet? Remove wing ?

Ken says:

Awesome informative video, where does the drain hole on the passenger side come out as its just that side that I'm seeming to have issues with.
Thanks

Antoine Schutt says:

Hi, what size is the hose you put inside? 2.7mm diameter right?
Mine is a LHD so it’s way harder to reach the hose on the passenger side, do you think just putting inside a new hose would be enough to repair the leak?
Also what is the diameter of the hose If I take off everything to fix it correctly ?
Thank you

Jamie Ducker says:

I had to put a 240v dehumidifier (using a plug extension from my house) inside the car for 48 hours to dry out my carpet. They get really sodden.

Colin Nicol says:

Hi mate. Going through exactly the same as you. Managed to replace the drain tube. But I'm now on clean up. The wires are totally covered in water. How did you remove the plastic trim to expose all the wires. I want everything cleaned and dried thoroughly. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
