Automatic Gearbox Replacement in a 2008 Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4

Step-by-step guide to swapping an automatic gearbox in a 2008 pre-facelift Land Rover Freelander 2 model.

Please note that I do work on my car as a hobby, I am not a mechanic by trade. The video is based on the removal and instal process that I undertook.

If you are considering a replacement yourself but are not confident about the process, then you should have the work undertaken by a competent mechanic / gearbox specialist. I accept no liability if mistakes are made that cause damage to your vehicle or affect the performance of the transmission system.

The gearbox is extremely heavy so you must ensure both it and the engine are fully supported at all times. Do not attempt to simply manhandle the gearbox without suitable lifting equipment.

Good movie enjoyed it. It's a too late now but the steering wibbly woobly pipe connecter is easy to undo, the rubber just needs to be pushed up with a tool, I use hose grip pliers
