Tesla Model S P85D vs Lamborghini Aventador Race

Tesla Model S P85D vs Lamborghini Aventador Race

Ever wonder if a 691-hp Tesla can beat a 691-hp Lamborghini in a drag race? I did. So I raced my new Tesla Model S P85D against my Lamborghini Aventador. First impression: That 0-50 acceleration.

+Rego Apps You say in your book “I was once hated for showing off my
wealth, but now I try to hide my wealth as much as possible”. How are you
trying to hide your wealth by racing your $140,000 Tesla and uploading the
video on Youtube for everyone to see?

Marques Brownlee says:

I was waiting for this, and it did not disappoint.

2014andBeyonD says:

What most people tent to forget here is that the Tesla is a luxurious,
heavy, spacey, four door family car. A family car that is tested against an
Avantador. That thought alone.. It doesn’t matter how you put it, that is a
major win already. Imagine a stripped to the bone beefed up carbon fiber
P85D.. It would be out of this world fast.

Harry Maddox says:

While not as fast this shows the power and speed available from electric
motors. Ultimately the technology will advance to where battery/electric
cars will compete in the real world. I will have a hard time adjusting to
the lack of rumble from a naturally aspirated V-8 or a supercharged V-12.

Mikhail Pugliano says:

even for the non-dual clutch transmission of the aventador, it seems to be
shifting really slow especially in the POV angle you can hear it. Was it in
the racing mode? Anyways the tesla is a beast, the instant power of the
electric motor compared to the gradual increase of power delivery in
combustion engines really shows in this vid

Davey L says:

Considering the Tesla is over 2 tonnes, is designed as a family Sedan, has
a massive interior fit for a family and can seat up to 7 (with two optional
for children) and can out accelerate the Aventador up to a reasonable
speed, that’s impressive.

Now, comparing the two, if the Aventador was loaded to weigh the same as
the Tesla, I dare say it wouldn’t catch it up to any speed. Electric
rotors maintain a fairly linear looking torque curve across a huge speed
range, unlike ICE’s, which means that Tesla Engineers have deliberately
moded the powertrain to only deliver full performance on stop light starts,
rather than across the speeds past 30mph – presumably to make sure the car
is a safe drive as a family car beyond 30+ mph. After all, it is a
performance family car, not designed as a two seater engine with wheels!

There really is no comparing the two technologies, electrical AC rotors way
out perform ICE’s – also considering the Tesla’s two AC rotors are about
the size of melons, whereas the Aventador’s is pretty much most of the car
size itself, it kind puts things into perspective!

To those saying: “The Avantador should have been using Launch Control!”

You realize that you are saying that a purpose built sports supercar that
generates the same amount of power, costs nearly 3 times as much as the
Tesla, weighs 800lbs LESS, and sits 2 people NEEDS launch control to beat a
7 seater electric sedan?!?!?!?

Completely undeniable that the lambo got within nose distance of the Tesla
at the 80mph mark… but you realize that should only happen if the Tesla
had about a quarter less weight than the lambo… it had 800lb MORE
weight!!! So, whats the conclusion. The Tesla, the car in its 3rd year of
production was engineered for speed by at least an order of magnitude more
than the Lambo which celebrated half a century on this planet in October of
LAST YEAR.

In essence, in 10 years of design and 3 years of production, Tesla has a
car that is designed to carry more weight and beat a Lambo in the 0 – 60
test without launch control. If you add lunch control, then I would say
that Tesla should unlimit the electric motors and add a higher density
battery pack and swap out the inverter for a track performance inverter.
(P85D’s are currently performance limited awaiting a performance upgrade
over the 3G link)

Look, I’m a gear head, but this is insane. There is no excuse for a top 10
fastest production supercar to be in competition with any sedan in any
metric with “speed” in it. For crying out loud, the reason these companies
exist is to challenge and own speed titles which no other car type can even
fathom. For those too young to remember it; before September 2014, that
sentence would have been the punch line to a very silly joke… Not anymore

Holy shit that sound! In front of Tesla, Aventador feels old and unrefined
yuk! Petrolheads can go to hell.

Yeah, Allen, let me just get my keys…

If the tesla was 4wd then the start would be even more insane. But it would

After the battle between a Tesla Model S and a Ferrari 550, the electric
powered vehicle faces another opponent from Italy. This time is the
Lamborghini Aventador lp 700-4.
As a reminder Model S produces 691hp and 687 lb-ft of torque, with the
ability to reach 100kmh (60mph) in 3.2 seconds, while the Aventador also
produces 691hp with a claimed 0-100kmh speed time in 2.9 seconds.
So who will win ? Watch the video to find out. Enjoy!

Glistering Melon says:

Its so weird not hearing noise from the Tesla its amazing

Joe Immler says:

All right all right, a drag race video with a Tesla vs a Lamborghini and
multiple angles…

grosano95 says:

The Aventador wasn’t even trying! With Thrust mode (launch control) and
Corsa’s superfast gearshift there’s no chance…

Nice video BTW!

Drag race between $120K car and a $400K car.

First impressions: That 0-50 acceleration from the Tesla is insane. Never
felt that kind of pressure on my chest before from accelerating. With the
Tesla, it felt like a 50-lb person was laying flat on your face and chest
and stays that way for a few seconds. The way the Aventador feels is like
being a boat on strong waves and you keep rocking back and forth between
the gear shifts. And at each gear shift, you feel like you’re being tugged
very heavily or kicked in the back from behind (depending on how you want
to view it).

Comment: Who wants to be kicked in the back. :)

Tesla Model S is so cool! Best car today!

shazaibbiazahs says:

that thing looks like a fucking family car

Spyder Seven says:

I find it satisfying both that the Tesla pulls off the line first with that
torque, and that the Lamborghini shrieked ahead after a few gears. Our work
on this nascent electric car technology and the might of a hundred years of
study and development in ICEs and chassis are wonderful pieces of
engineering.

I dont like the fact that the tesla doesnt have a gear box, it makes it

Using the P85D as the daily now instead of the Aventador?

Felipe Teodoro says:
