Great video, I got my Camry’s water pump replaced today after I noticed a
strange rattling noise from the engine. But, why do they call it a water
pump when it is actually a coolant that is being circulated by the “water”
pump?

Leo Mike says:

Hi Jon M.

Sorry, I forgot to mention my car is also a 2006 Toyota Camry with a 4
in-line 2.4 litre engine.

After the new water pump was installed, the engine / acceleration appeared
more responsive ( than before pump was replaced ) when the needle of
temperature guage points at the 9 o’clock position.

I could lose my driving licence very easily if I floor Accelerator pedal at
90km/hr.

The intake plenum / snorkel has been enlarged very substantially (
cross-sectional opening is 3x larger ). Above 90 km/hr, the air charge (
into the air filter enclosure ) seems to have increased torque output so
much – it out-runs the turbo-charged Mercedes 250E & the 300SL & BMW
5-series with 2.3 litre turbo-charged engines.

Perhaps that should have been the correct (designed) operating temperature ?

I am still baffled how a 4-door sedan designed for retired old couples, can
run so fast.

Leo Mike says:

I had my water pump & thermostat replaced a week ago. When the engine is
properly warmed up, I notice the needle ( of temperature guage – located
next to the speedometer ) is at the 9 o’clock position, This is about the
half way position ( the temperature guage only points from 7 o’clock –
cold; to 11 o’clock – overheated ).

Is that the correct temperature for the engine to operate ?

I also notice that my radiator cap is actually cold ( can rest my palm on
the cap without getting scalded/burned ) even after driving the car for 20
to 30 km. In fact, the entire horizontal steel frame supporting the top of
radiator is also cold. Before the previous water-pump failed, it was
impossible to touch the cap or the steel frame. Even the air coming out of
the radiator fans are not even warm !

Suspecting that the new thermostat might not be opening ( jammed ), I
parked car and observe the radiator/fans/coolant overflow tank, with engine
running. The fans cut in ok but the air being blown thru the radiator, was
still cold.

Only when the engine was switched off and not running, after about 4
minutes, the top portion of radiator became a bit hot, but the cap remained
cold to touch.

During installation of new water pump, I saw coolant draining out from the
bottom of radiator & engine block when the mechanic removed the water
hoses. By this, I assume the water flow thru the radiator & engine block,
is unobstructed,

Is the cooling system supposed to be operating this manner ? I thought all
radiator caps would be too hot to touch,

Any advice would be appreciated.

This video is great, I like how it goes fast motion and I can just slow it
down when needed. Very instructive and detailed.

I notice that you did not use the gasket that came with the pump. Was there
a reason?

Wow great job thank u so much

It came with gasket, why didnt you use that bro?

Camry 2003 says:

Hi Jon, great video. How many litres coolant is required when changing a
water pump? I have a 2003 Camry LE 4 cylinder that needs replacement. No
timing belt, only timing chain. Thanks.
