Zach Davis says:

That sucks, but this is likely to happen to my moms 01 sequoia because we
cant afford to change the belt, and when we can afford, she wont let us, so
we try to tell her, but maybe she will let us soon!

coffeefish says:

Sorry about that, I thought it was running.

blazerlover25 says:

@coffeefish nope car tried to run but didnt have enough compression to stay
running we believe its almost locking up on us not sure till we tear it
apart

dank1280 says:

I’m curious if you ever had to change the timing belt before. I have an
Optima just like this one. My mechanic says I need to change the timing
belt every 40,000 miles, as Optimas seem to break timing belts easily. In
fact I’m about to get my belt replaced at 80,000 miles for the second time.
I’m curious how many miles this belt lasted, or was it the original?

blazerlover25 says:

@coffeefish well this one might well with the exception of tying a horse on
the front end and pullin it lol

blazerlover25 says:

@PUREAAMERICAN thanks for the advice but as i said in the other videos the
engine basicly locked up from the timing belts exploding causing a piston
to slam into the head we replaced the engine with a used one but turns out
it was bad too car is scrap material now and most likely wont be fixed to
me not worth fixing

ghtowagon says:

Think the valves smacked the pistons? Maybe you can just put new valves it
in.. IF its an interference engine

blazerlover25 says:

@jungleguybest yep can’t agree with you more and we tried to prevent this
from happening but mom had no money so we tried to stretch it out a bit and
so far it worked but I know that’s not the right thing to do but when your
broke got to make do.I would have loved to tear the original engine apart
to see the damage but no tools so it got scrapped..wasn’t worth nothin
noways the engine that is

blazerlover25 says:

@1997FordProbeGT i totally agree with you with the exception of the spectra
cause my dads got almost 300,000 miles on the original engine/transmission
without having to do anything but change spark plugs think it has a timing
chain which is why its lasted so long

blazerlover25 says:

@1997FordProbeGT well its not just the valves something in the bottom end
is making a noise mechanic said it was most likely a thrown bearing plus it
needs new camshafts nothing left of the ones in there their burnt badly
basicly this engine is done for but this is typical for kia ive seen way
too many optimas with blown engines and under 130,000 miles

jungleguybest says:

as an expert, i would like to clarify few things if you allow me. most of
kia’s engines have flat head pistons and they travel very close to the
valves to get a good burst and give some resonpsivness to a small economic
engine. so when timing belt breaks due to normal wear it causes a piston to
slam into the valves,so since rubber of the timing belt has a limited life
not like chains, better to change it when it starts to show some minors
cracks, and it’s very easy to check it in kia’s.

blazerlover25 says:

@ghtowagon well basicly its an interference engine when the timing belt
snapped the pistons basicly shot up against the head and most likely bent
all the valves then the camshafts fried themselves and are worn slap out i
doubt this engine can be saved cause we believe theres more internal damage
gonna either tear this one down and rebuild or just buy a brand new engine

coffeefish says:

If it gets you to work on time, then it is in good shape.

blazerlover25 says:

@Motorfordtoyota yep if the belt breaks better pull out your pocket book
and start crying cause a new engine for this car is around 4 grand no joke
but i found one on wholesale for 2800 still gonna make ya pocket book cry
lol

blazerlover25 says:

@dank1280 well we was told it needed to be changed at 80,000 miles but this
one lasted till 110,000 miles up until it broke it had never been changed
but i would not recommend stretching its life past 80,000 cause as you can
see it caused major damage its worth the money to change it than have to
replace the engine at a cost of around 2 grand compared to a grand for the
belt change only

PUREAAMERICAN says:

Timing belt on these usually fail because the oil pump belt breaks and is
thrown into the sprockets of the t-belt. Oil pump belt is a small belt only
12″ or so in diameter and half an inch wide, it sits behind the timing
belt. Check to see if your timing marks align if they do replace the oil
pump belt, CPS, and t-belt and it should fire right up. If the marks don’t
align or the belt is stripped out around the crank pulley then the head
needs new valves and guides, cheaper to go used

Zach Davis says:

@1997FordProbeGT The first gen, aka the 4.7ls had belts, the 5.7 and 4.6
have chains.
